Mason Gazette
March 11, 2018
Dear Mason Families,
Can you believe it is time for Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences already!! Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences are this Wednesday (3.14 from 5-8 PM) and Thursday (3.15 from 1-4 and 5-8 PM). Please remember this is a time for us to celebrate your learner's growth not only academically but socially and emotionally. Below are some discussion points you might want to consider to make sure your conference is as successful as possible.
Before the conference:
-Talk with your child(ren) about any questions or concerns that need to be discussed at the conference.
-Make a list of items your child(ren) are doing well in so we can celebrate their success together.
At the conference:
-Please arrive at your conference on time. Conferences are only 15 minutes and we must adhere to the time limit to be fair to everyone.
-Be prepared to talk about your child(ren) and your child(ren) only. We can not talk about any other children during your conference; there are FERPA laws that restrict this type of interaction from happening.
-Our wonderful teachers are excited to talk about all the progress your child(ren) has made since September. Feel free to ask these questions during your conference to find out how you can support your child(ren) even more than you already do. What is my child(ren)'s character like at school? What are some of their interests inside the classroom? What real world skills can I help my child(ren) develop at home? What is one improvement they can make to be a better learner?
When you get home:
-Talk with your child about how the conference went. Stress the positive and make a plan to address any concerns that might arise.
-Set new goals for the remainder of the school year.
-Stay in touch with your child(ren)'s teacher after the conference to monitor the goals that were established.
Conferences are a great time for us to continue building a purposeful relationship and help your child(ren) foster a love of learning. Thanks for your time and presence during conferences. It goes without saying that we are honored to partner with you to help your child(ren) flourish in all aspects of life.
Educationally Yours,
Roy Bishop, Jr.
Principal
P.S. Also during conferences, please visit the Book Fair in the Library. I am sure your reader(s) have preselected some great books that they would like you to purchase. Across from the library, you can also find our Lost and Found area with many goodies that I am positive belong to some of our students. Please take a look and take what is yours as the remaining items will be donated after conferences.
Dinner Conversations:
-If you could create anything in the world, what would it be?
-How were you an upstander this week at school?
-What does it mean to be unique?
Fun Writing Opportunity for March:
1. Name one Famous African American person you would like to know more about and why?
2. March is Women's History Month! Why is it important to celebrate Women's History Month?
March's Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) Focus
Office Behavior- Treating people in the office with respect and using our manners when asking for supplies.
March's Character Word of the Month: Empathy- Empathy is the ability to understand how someone else is feeling or to understand the situation they are in. It is the ability to “put yourself in someone else's shoes” and to understand the way a situation might make them feel.
