Lower Mills WinterFest 2017 #SantasGotANewRide
Santa made quite the entrance for WinterFest! Is that Santa coming out of the hatchet of the Boston Police SWAT armor...it sure is!
Does SWAT Santa live in the North Pole? Maybe that is how the gifts get delivered so quickly on Christmas Eve?

Lower Mills WinterFest 2017 was a huge success!
On Sunday, our school community started our day at the 10am Mass at Saint Gregory's on the First Sunday of Advent. It was so powerful to begin our day in Prayer and celebrate the Eucharist together. After Santa's VIP entrance with Boston Police, we gathered in the gymnasium with family, friends and community members to spread some Christmas Cheer! There were vendors with lots of personalized gifts, over 50 raffles, activities for families, delicious treats to eat and most importantly a welcoming space for families to connect outside of school hours. Congratulations to Annabelle St Paul in grade 5 who was the winner of the SMART flat screen TV!

Lord God,
only you can see into my heart and know
that under all the busy-ness of my life,
there is a deep longing
to make this Advent one that welcomes you
more deeply into my own life.
My heart desires the warmth of your love
and my mind searches for your Light
in the midst of the darkness.
Help me to be a peacemaker this Advent
and to give special love to those
who disagree with me.
Give me the strength and courage
to forgive those who have hurt me.
Help me to free my heart
from the prison of my anger and hurt.

Lower Mills Innovative Teacher Spotlight
Ms. Cara Egan is in her second year of teaching at the Lower Mills Campus. Ms. Egan taught grade 4 last year and this year is teaching grade 4 and 5 math. Ms. Egan grew up in Connecticut and comes from a family of educators. The moment you step into Ms. Egan's classroom, you know that her mom and dad were teachers...Ms. Egan is a natural educator! Ms. Egan is known for her emphasis of time on learning and creating engaging, rigorous lessons for our students. She is a tech expert, so many also go to Ms. Egan for computer questions as well! Her integration of technology in her daily lesson plans is exemplar and her use of data to inform her instruction is fabulous as well. Ms. Egan went to Loyola University in Maryland for her Undergraduate Education and is now a second-year UCTC (Urban Catholic Teacher Corps) at Boston College. Ms. Egan lives with 15 other house members where they teach full-time as well as attend classes full-time at the Lynch School of Education at Boston College. UCTC prides their work around four core values: Teaching as a Ministry, Simple Living, Community and Spirituality. Ms. Egan has a passion for equitable education for all and continues to use her voice to ensure that all students are receiving what they need in her classroom to succeed to their full potential. Fun fact about Ms. Egan, she was a college level swimmer at Loyola. In fact, she was ranked in the top 100 swimmers across the country. Ms. Egan's sister is currently still a swimmer at Boston University! Ms. Egan loves to go to the gym and participate in sports, both indoor and outdoor. She also loves chocolate chip cookies and Lindt truffles, particularly the dark blue wrapper which is dark chocolate. Her favorite color is pink and she loves the beach. Ms. Egan is loved by her students, families and colleagues and we are blessed to have her on the Lower Mills team!
