Monroe Elementary News
January 21, 2022
From the Principal
We had a special visitor at Monroe Elementary this week. Vicki Yoder and her dog Shadow visited some of the classrooms. Shadow is a trained therapy dog. Monroe students enjoyed getting to meet Shadow and hear about all of the great things he gets to do to help people. I have posted some pictures below.
There are some updates to the Valentine Day section of the newsletter so please take a few minutes to check out the updates. If you have any extra shoe boxes at home, we would love to use them for student Valentine boxes.
Have a great weekend!

Valentine's Day
When you are out purchasing Valentine cards and would like to help out by purchasing an additional package of Valentine cards for students that don't have cards, we would gladly accept your help.
From The Guidance Counselor: Ms. Allen
This year, all 4th grade students at Monroe Elementary School will have the opportunity to participate in a career exploration and information program called Career Cafe. Students who choose to participate will be invited to eat lunch in a classroom while listening to speakers sharing information about a variety of career fields. If you, or someone you know, are interested in volunteering as a career speaker, please contact Allie Allen, School Counselor, at (740) 857-1711 or allenal@japioneers.org

Chromebook/i-Pad Student Responsibility
Chromebook/i-Pad Student Responsibility
All Jonathan Alder schools are now equipped with one Chromebook or i-Pad per child. We hope that students handle their devices with great care; however, there are consequences for damage, loss and/or inappropriate use of their computers.
All JA schools will be following this fee schedule for damages on devices:
This fee schedule was approved by the JA Board of Education on 12/13/2021 and is supported by Board Policy that states: “users are personally responsible and liable” for use of district technology and that users are “fully liable for damage or loss” of equipment while being used by the student. (ref: 7540.03 Student Technology Acceptable Use and Safety and 7530 Lending of Board-Owned Equipment)
We encourage you to have conversations with your children regarding the resources provided, and general safety and security on the web. This is a great place to start: Common Sense Media.
Thank you for your assistance as we strive to keep the laptop computers working properly and in the hands of students.
