The Great Leap Forward
A plan to develop agriculture and industry and modernize economy in China made by Mao. Communes which mostly held 5000 families each where workers lived had been created in order to start this plan. Places of work had also been created in the backyards of these communes which had resulted in the workers being taken away from the fields which meant that not enough food was being produced. Because of these many people died of starvation and illness because of the lack of food.
Mao Zedong used propaganda to portray the Great Leap Forward as a good thing and tried to make it seem like people would gain a lot from it when in reality, many people died because of starvation.
