Yellow Jacket Update
Irmo Middle School - September 11, 2020
Mission
Welcome Back IMS!
All students must wear a mask and practice social distancing while at school.
Visitors will not be allowed to enter the school at this time.
It is recommended that students bring their own water bottle which can be filled at water bottle stations as needed.
Upon arrival students needing to eat breakfast will report to the cafeteria. All other students will report to the gym.
IDs must be worn around the neck for all students when on school campus.
School ends at 3:30 pm. Please make sure your student knows their bus number in the afternoon or how they will be getting home each day.
Thank you for your patience and grace as we keep moving forward!
Arrival Times & Procedures
Students can arrive at school between 7:45 am and 8:25 am. School officially begins at 8:30 am. Students should not arrive at school earlier than 7:45 a.m. Adequate supervision is not available prior to this time. Parents may drop students off in the car rider line by making a right turn immediately next to Subway. Parents should follow the road all the way around and let their students out. No left turns are allowed and we ask that you pull as far up in line as possible. This allows for more cars to fit in the line. Do not drop your student off in the front of the school. This area is designated for bus drop off. Thank you for your assist and understanding.
Remote MAP Testing
MAP testing will continue next week. FIVE students will test with their class on the designated days. Students who selected face-to-face instruction will take MAP on their distance learning days. IMS would like to welcome our new SIC parent representatives, Mrs. Dinah Taylor and Dr. Glover Hopson.
Dinah S. Taylor was born in a small town in Georgetown County called Andrews. She later graduated from SC State University with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. From 2006-2016, Dinah was a special education teacher for learning and emotionally disabled students. Since 2016, she has been a district behavior specialist in Richland School District Two. Dinah later obtained a master's degree in Marriage & Family Therapy to study a systems approach to building and strengthening communities and families. She is also a certified Restorative Practices Trainer. Along with her husband, Rodney, they have two 7th graders (Cherish & Major) that attend the Escolores Program at Irmo Middle. Both children have been in the program since being a student at Harbison West. Dinah enjoys community advocacy, participating in all the activities of her children, crafting, and volunteering in her local church, Right Direction Church International.
Dr. Glover Hopson is an Associate Professor of Social Work at Benedict College and a Professor Emeritus in the College of Social Work at the University of South Carolina.
