Danville South Elementary
Maximizing Student Growth While Creating Positive Memories
September 27, 2019
Start With Hello
"From September 23-27th, 2019, thousands of schools and youth organizations across the United States participated in Start With Hello Week. With this, we are bringing attention to the growing epidemic of social isolation and building empathy in the classroom."
Miss McGee gave the Start With Hello lessons to all classes. The program was created to help teach students to make a difference with their peers in an impactful way. The goal is to help students understand inclusion and to learn to help students showing signs of social isolation. In addition to the lessons, students will have access to a few interactive videos and games that I will share with all of you and our students' families next week.
I have included the website below for more information on how the program was created and some of their resources if you are interested. Teachers were given a small laminated "Start With Hello" logo on your doors to help visually remind our students how to simply recognize and empathize when someone seems alone and how to then begin making sure they are included, by simply starting with, "Hello".
South Elementary Scholastic Book Fair
South Elementary will be hosting a book fair October 4-10. Each class will be able to visit the fair and purchase books during their library time. The Book Fair will be open on Tuesday, October 8 from 5:30-6:00 p.m. and from 7:00-7:30 p.m. You may shop at the book fair before and after the Referendum Meeting that will be held in the South Cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. We will also be open Thursday, October 10, from 2:30 - 7:30 p.m. for parents and their children. All are invited to come and see what wonderful products the Scholastic Book Fair will be offering this year.
