SCHROEDER SNAPSHOTS
Jan 20-Feb 3
Greetings Schroeder Raider Families!
Thank you for taking the time to read our Schroeder Snapshots newsletter, where you’ll find the latest information about your student’s experience at Schroeder Middle School.
In the information below, there is a survey link for our parents and guardians regarding our work as a High Reliability School.
High Reliability Schools (HRS) provide the Grand Forks Public Schools with a framework to ensure continuous improvement. HRS is designed to continually monitor critical factors that determine a school’s effectiveness and guide school leadership to take proactive steps to ensure success. As a parent or guardian, your role in this process is incredibly important!
Along with results from both student and staff surveys, your feedback will be analyzed and used to support decisions that we’ll make moving forward. And in case you breeze through this newsletter and forget to take the survey, I’ll be sending it out again next week to give you another opportunity.
Thank you for taking the time to participate!
I truly love this time of the school year! Despite the persistent cold and the snow outside, our building is absolutely buzzing inside with activities before and after school. Clubs, such as Card Club, Knits and Krafts, GSA, and Dungeons and Dragons, meet on a regular basis and bring like-minded students together for fun and productive social activities.
Both gymnasiums at Schroeder (and Kelly Elementary’s gym!) are full of girls and boys basketball players either competing against our area’s middle school teams or practicing for their next game.
And after the 3:30 bell, our musical cast turns our commons area into their performance stage and the choir room into their set and costume workshop. All of this hustle and bustle adds a tremendous amount of energy to the building, and it leads to fun and exciting days at Schroeder Middle School!
I hope you have an opportunity to enjoy the weekend with your friends and family. Stay warm!
All the best,
David Nowatzki
Principal

7th/8th Grade Future City
ND-ACDA State Conference Showcase Choir

Details are being finalized for the 7th & 8th grade choirs trip to Bismarck for the state ACDA Showcase Concert!
Singers will leave school at 11am on Friday, February 3rd with a sack lunch and head to Bismarck. Once there we will rehearse on stage and then head to supper at Space Aliens. The Showcase Concert begins at Bismarck High School at 7:30pm.
All tickets are $5, general admission, and available at the door. Schroeder Choirs will be one of the first groups performing.
After we sing, we will bus back to Schroeder!

7th & 8th Grade Music Ensemble Members Save the Date!
We are SO excited to announce that our Spring Music Department Field Trip
will be to Valleyfair!
On Friday, May 26th, all 7th & 8th grade music ensemble members will hop onto a few buses around 6:00am and head down to the twin cities area. We will then spend all day at the Valleyfair park.
There are a variety of food choices available along with different concessions and souvenirs. When the park closes at 5:30pm we will head home and grab fast food along the way.
We would likely get home (back to Schroeder) around midnight.
With the fundraising we have done so far, the total cost per student is around $90.00.
We are working on organizing at least one more fundraiser to lower this cost. If you do not want your child to participate in this fundraiser, you can pay the amount yourself. Anything your child fundraises will go towards their own account cost.
We are hoping to still fundraise and lower this total cost per student.
There may be scholarships for those who cannot pay the full amount. If you would like to sponsor a student, please reach out to one of the music teachers and let us know!
Please start thinking about if your child will be attending, and we will send out an RSVP link in the next few weeks!
Once we get a head count we can provide a more accurate cost per student. Our plan is to make a similar trip every other year, so current sixth graders would go on their field trip in their 8th grade year.
We are so excited to celebrate our young musicians with a fun excursion like this!
All-City Orchestra Festival
The Orchestra students have been working SO hard to prepare this music - this concert is going to be fabulous!
Come watch the kids and the world famous Mark Wood as they play "Crazy Train", "Thunderstruck" and other favorite rock tunes. There will also be a raffle for one of Mark Wood's electric violins - all proceeds will go towards benefiting the orchestra program.
See you on Thursday, January 26 @ 7:00pm!"

Parents Lead
Open Communication
Talking openly and honestly with your kids is one of the most effective ways to support their behavioral health. Whether it’s everyday topics like friends and school, or more serious topics like substance use, anxiety, or depression, it’s never too early to start the conversation.
As your kids grow, your conversations may change, but they will always be centered on keeping them happy, healthy, and safe. Keep your conversations relaxed, friendly, non-judgmental, and genuine. And most importantly, be a good listener. What should I say?
