Student Service's Corner-Stereotypes
Stereotyping and Labeling Others
Teens often sometimes give each other one-word labels such as " geek" or loner for example and sometimes start making assumptions about their peers.
We can look beyond labels and assumptions to see who people really are if we take the time to get to know each other.
Labels often incorrectly assume things about people and puts limits on them.
Example - What if the "loner" was a new student trying to make friends?
Watch this Ted talk with 8th grade student talking about "We are more than our labels" and what if we re-imagined how, we see each other and ourselves?

NO LABELS | Martha Fishburne | TEDxMarin We are more than our labels. What if we re-imagined how we see each other and ourselves? 8th Grade Student, Ross, Ca This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Challenge yourself to make a new friend with someone you would have never thought to be friends with. Commit to being a friend to someone different from yourselves and your group and stand up for someone who is being treated unfairly because of thier ethnicity, gender, religion etc...

"Kindness is loaning someone your strength instead of reminding them of their weakness"
