The Lion's Share Newsletter

December 2020

From the Desk of Mr. Miller:

Welcome to the December newsletter, Grant families! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! The Miller Thanksgiving was small and quiet, but filled with some great food! I can say that I am thankful for all of you and the support you have shown our teachers and most of all, our students. It really does take a village.

As we start D11's remote learning, I really hope you had the chance to take a look at the updated Remote Learning Plan I sent out a few weeks ago. If you haven't seen it, you can find it here: In this updated plan, you will find everything you need to know in order for all of us to make remote learning as successful as possible for our students. If you have been keeping up with the news and the messaging from D11, the plan, for now, is to have students return on January 6, 2021. As you know and are well aware, that could all very well change. If any changes do arise, we will let you know the second we hear about them. As a parent myself, I know that schedules, work, and family can sometimes feel like a puzzle when trying to make everything work and function smoothly. Please know that we are here for you and we will make this work!

I hope that your asynchronous learning day went well yesterday for your Lion! Each Monday, D11 has deemed the day to be an asynchronous learning day. What this means is that every Monday, your student will meet with the teacher and class during the morning meeting. The remainder of the day will be learning through self-directed lessons that your student's teacher has placed into Schoology. The daily/weekly schedule your student's teacher has provided will remain the same. The reason for this change is that our teachers have been working upwards of 60 hours per week planning for both in-person and online instruction. Each Monday will give teachers the opportunity to continue to plan quality instruction during the work day without having to plan late into the night and on weekends as they have been doing all year. Our teachers have really been doing a tremendous job and we appreciate the kindness you have shown them this year!

Finally, as a quick reminder, please be sure to communicate with your student's teacher if you encounter any problems or issues during our remote learning. Communication is going to be imperative for work completion, attendance, and overall success for our students.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please let us know how we can best support you!

Thank you,

Ryan Miller
