September 27th: Community Day 2019

What is Community Day? A day to celebrate and build our Hillcrest community by providing opportunities for learners to connect to each other across our building.

How do we celebrate?

* Teachers weave into their mornings buddy class activities, community circles, time in the outdoor classroom, design projects, activities to explore, create and tinker.

* At 2:00 in the afternoon, we gather on the playground for our Husky Run. Each grade level takes a lap around our grounds to the cheers of everyone else.

* After the run (about 3:00), we head to the gym for a few rounds of our signature dance, The Husky Hustle.

Visitors are welcome to join us for the fun beginning with the run. Just be sure to sign in at the office with a photo ID and wear your visitor's sticker while on school grounds. If you know you are going to attend, please let your child's teacher know. They will share that information with the office so we can print some badges before families arrive.

International Dot Day

The art classes recognized International Dot Day by reading The Dot and then "making their own marks" to celebrate creativity, courage and collaboration! Check out some student creations below.

Picture Retake Day

If you missed the picture day this summer or you would like to have a retake of the pictures taken this summer, retake day is Wednesday, October 16th.

The online order cart is open for the absentee day:

4K Curriculum Night

All 4K students and families are invited to join other 4K families from accross the district for a 4K Curriculum Night at Prairie Elementary on Thursday, September 26th from 6:00-7:00 PM. More details can be found in THIS FLYER.

Want to come over and play?

We are looking for volunteers who want to come and support our lunch recess with K-5 students. If you have any open days of the week from 11:45AM-12:25PM, we would LOVE to have you join us on the playground. While you're having fun, you get to wear a super stylish orange vest and show your kids how cool you are with a basketball! In all seriousness, our goal is to have as many students engaged in play, moving and having fun, as possible. Having parents and grandparents volunteer to help with a game always gets more students excited to try it out. If you are interested, we will be posting a Sign Up Genius in next week's newsletter. Be sure to sign up! We are looking especially for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. PS - If the vest is a deal-breaker...you don't have to wear it.

PTO: Engage, Support & Assist

Did you know PTO does ZERO selling fundraisers (wrapping paper, cookies, magazines, etc.). Yet we still provide generous finical support to our amazing school?! Instead of selling items, all families are asked to participate in a no sell fundraiser.

All you need to do is read the linked form and send in a donation and you won't be asked to sell things! The best part is 100% of the donations go directly into our school the year they are donated!

Read how this works and what the goals are for this year by clicking HERE!

Pictured below are examples of items purchased through this fundraiser!!!
