Note from the Principals
As mandated by the Massachusetts Education Reform Act (June, 1993) Bancroft School established a School Council that is a representative, school building based committee composed of an equal number of parents and staff and a community member. The Council is an advisory body to the principal and its purpose is to assist the principal in reviewing the school building budget, in developing a school improvement plan, and in identifying educational needs and goals for our students at Bancroft School. The Council meets one Friday morning at 8:15-9:00 AM. Our first meeting will be held VIRTUALLY on October 12.
If you were a member of School Council for the 2020-2021 school year, have not completed a full two year term and are still interested, please email Alice Dorant (alice.dorant@andoverma.us). If you feel you are able to share your time and energy in this capacity, please submit a short paragraph to Michelle Costa to place your name in nomination. Please be assured that the only criterion for eligibility is a love of children and a willingness to serve! In your email, state your desire to serve, any life experiences that may support Council work, and the number of years you are willing to serve (one or two). Please deliver it or email to the school office (mcosta@aps1.net) by October 1.
If ballots are necessary, they will be sent home, through the PTO on October 1 with a return deadline of October 8.
We need your help and assistance since our school will be stronger as a result of our working together on behalf of the children. If you have any questions that we may help you with, please don't hesitate to call us at 978-247-9500. Thank you!
Thank you for everything, as always,
Michelle Costa and Kim Rabold

A Few Dismissal and Bus Messages
- For planning purposes, Bus 27 is coming between 3:45 and 3:48 PM every day. If Bus 27 is going to be more than 10 minutes later than that, we will send an email.
- Bus 4 is now leaving Bancroft around 4:06 PM each day. We will no longer send emails each day UNLESS there is a 10 minute differential (earlier or later!). If this is of concern, please let us know.
- We may start asking K families to pull into an adjacent parking space in the parking lot to fully buckle in students. As we may face potential downpours and...SNOW, we need to try and get the waiting time down for students outside.

CREATING-BUILDING-ACTING & HAVING FUN
DI is an extra-curricular activity where teams with up to 7 students unleash their imagination using creativity, inquiry, and teamwork to problem solve open-ended challenges which they present at our March regional tournament. Students solve a STEAM based challenge, tapping into their interests and skills, while enjoying collaborating with their team members.

Literacy VOLUNTEER Opportunities
The Merrimack Valley Jewish Coalition for Literacy provides literacy support to students to help them become stronger readers. The Coalition is a non-denominational organization that trains volunteers to work in schools to help students develop a love for reading. Schools across the town have partnered with the Coalition over the years to match volunteers with students who work together weekly on developing reading skills. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer or learning more about this opportunity, please contact Sharon Faulkner, Bancroft Reading Specialist, at Sharon.faulkner@andoverma.us.
