Shadowing BASIC/Advanced Directors
We are looking for individuals who have at least 3 years of experience as a BASIC or Advanced Advisor and are working in secondary education. Shadows will be expected to meet with their Director 2-3 times outside of the workshop. The Board decided that shadows will be paid $250 per session they shadow. If you have already committed to being an advisor for a session, you cannot shadow that session (or back out to shadow that session).
Someone requested to follow Martha, our Curriculum Director, this year and accepted the position before the Board and the Directors met to put a policy in place. So that position is closed for shadowing for 2019. If you are interested in the JC/State Officer Director position, that will be open for 2020 in order that you can watch the JC selection process. If you are interested in the Facilities Director position, it will be open for 2020 in order that you can be part of facilities and administrative meetings with the University. If you are interested in the Registrar Director position, and can meet with Janet several times this spring for data entry, please contact me at dreitan@norman.k12.ok.us for an application. If you are interested in shadowing the Advanced Director position please contact me at dreitan@norman.k12.ok.us for an application.
Please note that shadowing a director is in no way a guarantee for the position when it opens. There will be the usual application process and Board selection.

RESILIENCY THEMED LESSON PLAN
JC Pohl met with the State Student Council Executive Directors in November in Atlanta and had a lot to share about school culture. Below, he has shared some information from his book. Below, please find a resiliency lesson plan.
With the release of my new book, Building Resilient Students From the Inside Out, we have been talking a lot this month about creating student resilience on campus.
TEEN TRUTH's school counselor, Penny Knight, wanted to jump in on the fun as well, so she wrote a fabulous blog on resiliency that every educator should read!
CLICK HERE to check out her latest blog and download her FREE resiliency themed lesson plan to use in class or in groups.
Lastly, CLICK HERE to download the first TWO chapters of my book for FREE!

VP'S CORNER
I am happy to say that we have the March Service Project of the Month ready for all of you!! This is simply to provide you with ideas for service projects and empower your council! For March, we are encouraging all of the OASC to get involved in National Women's History Month! Please read the attached pdf document to see a list of needed materials, instructions, and a letter from me!
I would also like to remind everyone of the Direct Service Training aspect of the OASC Live to Serve Campaign. We understand that not all schools know how to plan for and execute an effective service project, and we want to help change that. We are going to choose 3-5 schools that we will work with over the next year to help finish a service project using the Service Learning process (plan, act, reflect, celebrate), as well as make a plan for the service project to happen again the following year. We will teach you how to do a service project that is effective and how to engage students so that they want to serve their community. If you wish to be a recipient of this training, please follow this link: https://goo.gl/forms/sT6r9efSsXJpelko1. We hope that you will take advantage of this amazing opportunity not only for Miami and your school, but for all of the OASC.
Finally, I would like to give a huge shout out to Hennessey High School for executing the February Service Project (making Valentines for the elderly). Their sponsor, Mrs. Johnson, tweeted a picture of her students smiling and serving! I would like to encourage all of you to do the same and tag me, @corbinwalls, in the tweet, as well as use the #LiveToServe!
Once again, I personally want to thank all of your for granting Miami High School and myself this amazing opportunity. Don't forget, "unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." - Dr. Suess
Learn to Love, Love to Live, Live to Serve!!
Lovingly at your service,
OASC VP Corbin Walls
