English Landing: Where Eagles SOAR!
Walking AROUND English Landing
Here is a snap shot of what we SAW:
Kindergarten: Reducing Human Impact Stemscope
Description: Students first created the landscape by using a tray filled with dirt and colored toothpicks. The toothpicks represented trees, animals, and water. Once the students placed the toothpicks in their tray, they were challenged with building a new home and road while doing the least amount of damage to the landscape.
Sometimes we hear statements such as: Students in primary grades aren't allowed to create or play any more. NOT TRUE! Our kindergarten students on Wednesday were able to experience CREATIVE exploration in this collaborative setting. This is much more meaningful than unstructured play. In this setting students were carefully monitored and taught how to collaborate together to achieve specific goals. Children do not learn how to collaborate and work together without direct and specific input from adults. Not all of our students are able to experience this outside of the 7 hours they spend with US!
Relationships! Meeting with students where they are!
