Roberts Middle School
GRIT: Volume 18
Dear Roberts,
The only way to move beyond our limitations is to understand that one person cannot transform a school. Until we shift our thinking from Me to We, we cannot do extraordinary things. How can you move from a Me mentality to a We mentality? How do we start making Me to We decisions? I believe it starts with each and every one of us understanding our WHY. Roberts, that’s how simple it is! Simon Sinek said it best, “Everyone has a WHY. Your WHY is the purpose, cause or belief that inspires you.” Once we understand that, we can go from Me to We decisions. Living ME to WE means working together to create sustainable change, and making a difference with everything you do. Understanding your words and actions within a school creates a ripple effect that can create waves of grit or waves of complacency.
You see Roberts; this is a school where titles mean nothing. Custodians, cafeteria staff, office assistants, teachers, and school leaders are tasked with the mission to inspire students to achieve their personal best through collaborative, innovative, educational experiences to meet the challenges of a global community.
My ultimate goal as your principal is for you to understand that each and every student is our student. NOTHING at Roberts is someone else's problem. To make this a reality, we must shift our thinking from Me to We. I hope you know how much I care for each of you. I hope through my actions you will see that you are valued. Thank you for doing what is best for kids.
Be the change,
Jorly

Maybe the American author, William A. Ward, put it best when he said:
- The mediocre teacher tells.
- The good teacher explains.
- The superior teacher demonstrates.
- The great teacher inspires (Mrs. Klein)
