Christine Dodson

BA Sociology MA Public Administration

A little bit about me...

I am Christine Dodson, originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but living in Lakewood, Washington since 2002. I am a very service oriented person and am excited to share my knowledge and expertise as an upper class person with the newer incoming Ashford students. As a young, single mom I did not know where my life was heading. I became a child care provider to be available to my son who was frequently sent home from school due to severe, chronic asthma. As I raised my son I obtained my Certified Nursing Certificate in Washington State, leaving daycare for an independent state contract working with adults who have developmental disabilities. In 2009, I returned to school to obtain a BA in Sociology with a minor in Public Administration in the hope of continuing on a path of social service and healthcare employment. Due to SmartTrack, I was able to begin my Masters in Public Administration while I was still obtaining my undergraduate degree. In April of 2014 I received my MPA. All of my education and training finally came together as I accepted an Information and Resource Coordinator position through AmeriCorps VISTA in August 2014. As I performed my service, however, it became apparent that educating others with the use of technology will be a large part of my future positions. Many aspects of the Masters in Learning and Teaching with Technology will be useful in my future work. For example, I will need to develop tutorials, make technology proposals, and ensure that volunteers are properly trained. In addition, I am eager to delve into the diversity of learning styles as well as ways to utilize adaptive technologies for clients with disabilities. My MA-TLT program ends in July, 2016.
