Eagle News
SME newsletter for families and the community
Dear Parents,
We are so excited to celebrate Red Ribbon Week this week. This week we are focusing on ways that we can be the change we want to see in the world. We are talking about kind choices and ways that we can choose to be kind to ourselves and others. Please see the calendar below to see how students are encouraged to dress each day.
Don't forget that Monday and Tuesday, 10/30 and 31, are Fall Break days and students do not attend school!
Hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween!
Warm regards,
Melissa Terry
Literacy Night
We will have Literacy Night on Thursday beginning at 5:45 pm. Sound Offs will sing in the cafeteria. At 6, we will hear from guest author, Dan Gutman, about his writing. He will also read from several of his books. His books will be on sale in the cafeteria as well.
You can also bring money to vote on your favorite pumpkin in the library. All pumpkins should go home at the end of the evening.
Red, White and Brew will have a tent set up serving all kinds of goodies in the side parking lot.
We hope you can join us Thursday night from 5:45-7:00 pm.
Best of the Nest
Each month at Six Mile Elementary, we focus on different character traits and talk about ways to show those traits to others. We discuss the trait in morning meeting in our classrooms. We spotlight the trait on the school news show. Mrs. Orr, our guidance counselor, goes into classrooms and does special lessons with the trait. At the end of each month, we have a Best of the Nest party to honor those students who "shine" in that area.
This month, our word is Integrity. Integrity is choosing to be truthful in all you say and do.
Ready for the Day? Start the right way!
Being on time to school is a challenge we all face, especially when the whole family is trying to get out of the house and to school on time. Research shows that students who are consistently on time to school often get better grades, have a better attitude about school, and are more likely to graduate from high school. Being on time lets students know the importance of education and teaches the value of arriving promptly. If you are having trouble getting your student out the door, think about what could be causing the delay. Would it help to lay out clothes the night before? Would it help to get up five minutes earlier? We know that some challenges are unavoidable in the morning, but try setting a goal to be at school by 8 each morning. Thank you for your help!
Absence Notes
If your student is absent, you have three days to send a note stating the reason for their absence before it is counted unexcused. You can send a handwritten note or you can email Stephanie Merck at stephaniemerck@pickens.k12.sc.us. You can also email your child's teacher.
When students have accumulated 3 absences in a row without a note, Mrs. Plyler will have to schedule a meeting for an Attendance Conference. Please make sure to get your note in so that this does not happen.
