The Juliano Journal

Week of May 9-13

Dear Families,

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend Academic Night last night. It is always so much fun to watch the students get so excited to show you many of the things they have done this year. I cannot believe this year is winding down so fast- I definitely need to savor these last few weeks with your incredible children.

Our class really enjoyed listening to our Mystery Readers today. I would like to extend a thank you to those parents who were able to come in and read.

Thank you for promptly returning the Olympic Day t-shirt form. If you did not send in an order and still want to order a shirt, please do so no later than Monday, May 16th. Thanks!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Mrs. Juliano

CURRICULUM NEWS

Language Arts

We continued to explore persuasive texts this week. We shared two books by the same author: I Wanna iguana and I Wanna New Room. Then the students compared and contrasted the two stories. We will continue to discuss persuasive writing in the weeks to come.

In writing, the students will be working on finishing their poetry books in the next two weeks.

Math

We are continuing on with our unit about place value. This past week we practiced identifying the value of digits and then solved word problems involving multidigit numbers. Next week we will be working on rounding numbers to the nearest tens and hundreds place. I know this is a busy time of year however it is important for your child to practice his/her multiplication facts on a daily basis.. It is an end of the year expectation that third graders are fluent with multiplication facts up to 10 X 10.

Social Studies

Our students have formed their businesses and production is set to begin next week. All of the products will be made at school. Our PTO has generously donated funds that will be used to purchase many of the supplies that our third graders need to make their products. Parents are invited to attend our Economics Fair on May 27th from 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM.
