MATH ACCELERATION REQUESTS
Tuesday, February 20, is the deadline for a parent/guardian, teacher or other school district professional to request acceleration (grade skipping) in math by notifying Mrs. Schneider, the gifted and talented coordinator, in writing. Current kindergarten through sixth grade students, who are highly capable AND high performing students, are eligible to apply. Primary age students should also demonstrate advanced reading and writing abilities.
Math acceleration is an appropriate programming option for approximately 1-3% of the student population. Previously placed students do not need to reapply. Included with this written notification should be a rationale for why this is appropriate for the child. Once notification is received, a rigorous review process begins that incorporates data from student performance, standardized test results and teacher observation. Lake Country Schoolβs math acceleration committee will review the data before the end of this school year for 2024-2025 math class placement. Parents who have questions regarding this process should contact their childβs math/classroom teacher(s) or Mrs. Schneider.

OPEN ENROLLMENT
February 5 - April 30, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.
The inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend a public school in a school district other than the one in which they reside. The regular application period begins on February 5, 2024, and ends at 4:00 pm on April 30, 2024. The best way to apply is online, the online application is available at https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment during the application period.
Once a pupil is attending a nonresident school district under open enrollment, the pupil may continue to attend that district without re-application. Lake Country School students do not need to re-apply for open enrollment until they attend Arrowhead High School or another school district. If your 8th-grade child does not reside in the Arrowhead District (ARROWHEAD UHS 2450), you will need to apply for open enrollment during the regular application period starting on February 5, 2024.
The Lake Country School Board of Education approved three open enrollment seats in 4K, three open enrollment seats in 5K, and 0 open enrollment seats in grades 1-8 for the 2024-2025 school year. The Lake Country School Board of Education closed the following programs for the 2024-2025 school year due to lack of space: Cross Categorical Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech and Language.
Siblings of a pupil attending Lake Country School under open enrollment must complete open enrollment paperwork during the application period. Preference will be given to siblings in grade levels in which seats are open (see above), but there is no open enrollment guarantee for seats.
If your family is considering a move outside of Lake Country School District, please understand that there is no guarantee for already attending students, only preference in grade levels in which seats are open (see above). A family cannot simply purchase or rent a home in one school district and sign their children up to attend school in another district. The child must apply for open enrollment, which is subject to the availability of space in the desired school district, as well as other possible limitations. Often, though not always, planning can allow the family to live where they want and have their children attend school in the desired school district. Thus, it is important to knowβbefore irrevocable decisions are madeβwhether the desired result can be accomplished.

Student Council has recently taken on a new community service project called Project Linus. Project Linus is an organization that takes homemade blankets and distributes them to local children in need. We are looking for donations of polar fleece that are 50β x 60β and must be new, smoke and pet free. Joann Fabrics and Hobby Lobby are great locations to get the fleece from. We also accept monetary donations which will be used to buy more materials, as well as fabric scissors. Checks should be addressed to βLake Country Schoolβ with βProject Linusβ in the memo. At this time, Student Council members will be the only ones working on the blankets. Contact Mrs. Thurin with any questions at thurinh@mylakecountryschool.org.

Arrowhead Field Hockey - 5K Through GR 8
Arrowhead Lacrosse - GR 7 & GR 8
Due to high interest in this growing sport we have opened a waitlist registration for 2024 7/8th grade boys Arrowhead Youth Lacrosse! We currently have 28 players registered, and due to continued desire to sign-up we created a waitlist for 7/8th grade boys that want to join their friends and play lacrosse this spring. We would love to have as many boys as possible play this sport in high school, so please join this year to learn the game and see what a great sport it is. In addition, the 7/8th grade boys team will be coached by the high school coaches so they will be coached at a high level, have fun and be ready to join the HS program next year.
Waitlist registration will remain open through February 14th. There are no fees to join the waitlist, except for the $35 US Lacrosse sign-up fee (we have no way around that). Use the link below to register your son!
We urge you to register your player as soon as possible if they want to play this spring. If we do not get enough players added to the waitlist we will have to keep the current number of boys and not add a 2nd team. No AYL dues or fees will be charged until a 2nd team is confirmed. Thank you for understanding!

Strategies to Make Homework Go More Smoothly
Homework has been around as long as public schools have, and over the years considerable research has been conducted regarding the efficacy of homework practices. Besides contributing to academic success, homework can help teach children how to take responsibility for tasks and how to work independently. Homework helps children develop habits of mind that will serve them well as they proceed through school and through life. Specifically, homework helps children learn how to plan and organize tasks, manage time, make choices, and problem solve. All of these skills contribute to effective functioning in the adult world of work and families. Homework also helps parents stay involved with their childβs education.
We encourage parents to help and assist their children to follow a nightly homework routine. Below are some recommendations from the National Association of School Psychologists. If you have further questions please reach out to your childβs teacher. CLICK HERE FOR HELPFUL HOMEWORK ROUTINES
If you have further questions, concerns or need to collaborate about your childβs education or social/emotional/behavioral health; please reach out to your Student Support Team.
