Safety Is A Partnership
Our strong relationship with the PD is evident in their quick responses whenever the need arises as shown by the presence of our School Resource Officer, Mike Sakamoto, who is out and about and very visible on our campus. Teachers, staff, and students have been trained on what to do when there is an active shooter on campus, but we will have more drills and trainings as the year progresses. We always review procedures and reflect on the drills with the goal of continual improvement. Officer Sakamoto is present during our drills to help give direction and feedback.
What can you do to help? Communication is key and we will keep you informed of our student safety procedures. As a parent, you need to make sure that your emergency contact information is always up to date with current contact phone numbers AND emails, along with emergency release information. The emergency release information provides us with a list of people who we can release your student to in case of an emergency. The more information the better. You can update this information on the Aeries Parent Portal. After you login, hover over the Student Info Tab at the top of the page, Click on Contacts and add/modify contact information on this page. This information is all online and replaces the old paper Emergency Cards and Emergency Release Forms. In case of an emergency, we can send phone and email messages to all of the contacts that you provide for us.
Our hearts go out to the families, educators and community in Florida. At Foothill High School, we will work together to continue in providing a safe environment for students to grow both academically and socially.
Your Principal,
Mike Williams

Reinforcing Chemical Reaction Vocabulary with Collaborative Games
At Foothill High School, in Paul Roundy’s CP Chemistry Class, students are exposed to a variety of activities that help reinforce the language and the calculations they need to use throughout the year. Paul’s vision of using games and online collaborative activities “taps into each student’s motivation to problem solve, as well as create more opportunities for them to use terms and calculations they need to be successful in my class.”
Paul starts out the unit on stoichiometry with a Desmos Polygraph activity designed to review the different types of chemical reactions. Students are automatically paired up, and play a simple “Guess Who” game, where one person picks a chemical reaction from 16 different images, while the other person tries to guess which one was selected by asking yes/no questions. Paul prompts the pairs to use the terms they just learned from chemical reaction types, and checks their proper use of the terms through the teacher dashboard during the activity. This simple yet brilliant use of a game forces students to qualify images based on their understanding of reactions, and use the language in the proper way.
