Hello Southwood Families!
My name is Marge Thiessen and I am looking forward to meeting all of you in the Southwood School community as Interim Principal in the coming year. Many years ago, I was hired as a Learning Support Teacher at Southwood and it changed the nature of my teaching career in a positive way, so Southwood School has always had a place in my heart and I am thrilled to be back to help out in a new role. I bring some experience as Vice Principal, first in Niverville Elementary in 2018 - 2019 and currently at the SRSS. Most of my teaching experience has been at the early years level and I enjoy the enthusiasm of students in Kindergarten to Grade 4.
I live nearby in the countryside of Mitchell on a little farm with a Beagle, a couple of cows and chickens and my husband. I love being outdoors, gardening, walking and camping with friends and family. I love learning something new everyday and I am hoping to share learning and love of life together next year.
See you soon.
We are excited to have 2-Phoria - Ardyth Johnson and Brian Foley to entertain us on June 29th! Ridiculous, inventive, and inspired by the fantasies of a child, the two performers of 2 Phoria use their combined 60+ years as physical comedy professionals to lead the audience through a hilarious romp of transformations and dreams come true. Two ridiculous humble workers become glamorous circus performers and fabulous illusionists, at least in their own minds. This interactive physical comedy show is at home on outdoor festival stages or indoor theatres, and is the brainchild of Ardyth Johnson and Brian Foley. With multiple appearances at festivals on four continents and television programs such as Shining Time Station and Sesame Street, these award-winning clowns have been called "The Perfect Comedy Partners", "Absolutely Hilarious", and "A Dazzling Display". 20 - 40 minute modular show is appropriate for all ages, and for non-English speakers.
Transition for Grade 4 Students to Grade 5 (2021/2022)
By now, all parents of students who will be attending Grade 5 at Clearspring Middle School or Stonybrook Middle School next year (2021/2022) should have received the registration package from their prospective schools. In mid May, these schools will be emailing introductory information and videos and posting it on their websites. Please watch for the emails and check in with their websites for any updates during this time of transitioning into grade 5.
Kindergarten Welcome Drive Thru on May 25th from 4:30 to 6 pm for all students entering Kindergarten at Southwood School this fall. Students will meet their classroom teacher and some of our support staff. They will also receive a welcome package from Southwood School. Families are asked to drive down our bus lane (entering off of Barkman Ave and exiting on to Kroeker St) We are excited to see you there!
A Message from Transportation
Hanover School Division Transportation Department has been very busy this year trying to accommodate all the changes that we have been facing throughout the school year. In order to help us prepare for the next school year - if you know that you will be moving locations/returning from home school; you are welcome to call or email our office at any time before school starts at 204-320-2347 or email email@example.com so we can ensure your child will have transportation set up for the school start up. We are open all summer long.
On another note - Are you looking for part time employment and want to start a new career? We are looking for spare school bus drivers for all areas of the division. You do not need experience or a class 2 license. We provide training with little cost to you. You can drive as little or as much as you want. In the future regular positions can become available. Please call our office and talk to Robert if you have more questions.
