Superintendent's Update

June 11, 2021

To the CCPS Community:

This is a great time of year. There is so much to celebrate as we honor graduates, hold promotion ceremonies, attend retirement parties, prepare to finish out the school year, and kick off summer. This newsletter has several recognitions of students and staff members who have done great things this spring.

I think we are all ready to close the chapter on a very challenging school year, but I want to congratulate each of our students, staff members, parents, family members, and community supporters for getting through this year. It is no small accomplishment and I am PROUD of the perseverance of this community to rally around our students especially during such a difficult year.

2020 Teacher of the Year Nominees Recognized

Big picture
Last year's Cecil County Teacher of the Year nominees were recognized at a reception at Elkton High School on Wednesday. This group of nominees did not get to experience the typical celebration and recognition of an annual gala in the spring of 2020 due to the COVID shutdown. This group went through the process in various virtual formats for their interviews. Our 2020 Teacher of the Year, Chelsea Jones of Elkton Middle School, was surprised by members of the Leadership Team and board of education at her school with the announcement that she had won instead of the typical announcement that culminates the annual Teacher of the Year Gala. This group of AMAZING educators took it all in stride with true grace and professionalism and while it isn't the same as our typical celebration, we wanted to take time to recognize and celebrate them. Congratulations to each of them!

Board Recognizes Outgoing Student Member of the Board

Miss Sophia Porter, recent graduate of North East High School, was recognized for her service as Student Member of the Board of Education during the 2020-2021 school year. We wish Sophia the very best of luck in all of her future endeavors!
