Greetings Flashes Fans,
Two week of Fall Sports are now over with and here is a plethora of results!
East Boys and Girls Tennis lost at Fall Creek Valley on Tuesday 8/22. The team hosted the Chargers of Columbus Central on Wednesday 8/23 and also lost both sets. The team will look to get on the winning side of things on Saturday 8/26 as they compete in the Warren Central Invite.
FTMS Football 7 and 8 are off to a good start. On 8/15, 7th grade football lost at Shelbyville against a combined 7th and 8th grade Shelbyville team, 6-8. The originally scheduled 8th grade game vs. Shelbyville was cancelled due to Shelbyville having a lack of 8th grade players which equaled in a forfeit win for the 8th grade Flashes. The teams fought hard on Thursday 8/17 but both fell to Fall Creek Valley. 7th grade lost 0-8 while the 8th grade lost 16-28. Both teams got on the winning side of things on Monday 8/21, hosting Heritage Christian. The 7th grade won 35-0 while the 8th grade won 24-0. On Thursday 8/24, both teams played Belzer, with the 7th grade falling at home. 8th grade traveled to Belzer on this day and played well, but ultimately fell 6-20. The Flashes 8th grade “B” team defeated the Bruins 22-14.
East Volleyball is off to a hot start to begin the season! Both the 7th and 8th grade teams were victorious on the road at Clark Pleasant on 8/15, 2-0. The teams also both picked up 2-0 wins over Center Grove North on 8/22. On 8/24 they hosted Doe Creek and the 8th grade won in 3 games, 2-1. The 7th grade fell to the Bucks 1-2 in 3 games.
East Boys and Girls XC is also off to a great start winning all meets they have competed in. On 8/15 they ran at Lynhurst and picked up wins. On 8/16 they competed at Stonybrook and earned the same result. On 8/22 they won big at Creston. The team returns to action on 8/30 at FTMS West as they compete in a tri-meet alongside Beech Grove.
Both East and West XC had a great result at the annual FTMS West Flash Dash. This event is the largest middle school athletic event that is hosted by either school. The field has grown from 6 teams to 13 teams in 5 years. Congratulations to the East Boys XC team finishing 3rd overall. Also congratulations to our East and West runners that placed in the top 25. Congratulations to East’s Brayden Henkle on a runner-up finish in the boys’ varsity race. Full Results can be viewed at www.onlineraceresults.com
FTMS Athletics also thanks our East and West Cheer Squads for their tremendous support and spirit at home football contests. The cheer squads together are over 60 student athletes strong this fall!
Participation numbers at East and West are at an all-time high. Football has 100+ players. East XC has over 100+ runners. Total participation numbers between both middle schools for fall sports is 429 student athletes!
Congrats girls!
Welcome Back JAM!
Parents & Guardians,
Middle School East is hosting a 6th & 7th grade “Welcome Back JAM!” on Friday, September 8th. We are in need of Parent Volunteers the night of the Jam. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Mr. Smith (robert.smith@ftcsc.k12.in.us or 803-8102). To be a volunteer you must complete a volunteer background check. There is a fee approximately $16.00 and there is a link on the school website http://www.ftcsc.k12.in.us/HR/67/
The JAM is from 6:00PM-8:00PM for Middle School East students. Volunteers for the Jam will need to arrive at 5:45PM for instructions with Mr. Smith. Volunteers will be stationed in the cafeteria, hallways, and the gyms to help monitor student activities.
There will be a concession stand with pizza, soda, popcorn, and candy. No JAM tickets will be sold at the door. All tickets will need to be purchased in the cafeteria starting on Tuesday, September 5th. Jam tickets will cost $2.
All students will enter Middle School East at 6:00PM through Door #25, on the East side of the building, to check-in. 6th grade students need to be picked up at 8:00PM in the East parking lot by the gymnasiums at the conclusion of the JAM. 7th grade students need to be picked up at 8:00PM in the West parking lot near the baseball field at the conclusion of the JAM. Please drive cautiously when picking up and dropping off your student. Again, 8:00PM pick-up time.
If it is raining at pick-up time then students will be in the gymnasiums on the East side. The doors to the gymnasiums will be open so students can see approaching vehicles. Staff members will direct students out to the vehicles for pick-up.
If you have any questions please feel free to call Mr. Smith (803-8102).
