PRINCIPAL
An Old Irish Blessing.
May the raindrops fall lightly on your brow and may the soft winds freshen your spirit. May the sunshine brighten your heart and may the burdens of the day rest lightly upon you. And may God enfold you in the mantle of His love.
Amen.
Next Wednesday, 17 March, we celebrate St Patrick’s Feast Day! As Catholics in Western Australia we celebrate the spirit of Irish Catholicism because the Church in Western Australia was founded by priests, brothers and nuns who came from Ireland to our shores over 170 years ago. They worked hard to establish parishes and schools, with the strong spirit of St Patrick who brought Christianity to their own country some 1600 years earlier. His spirit is one that captures more than just Christianity. It has become the spirit of Ireland itself and because of the relationship which exists between our two nations, it is Australia’s celebration as well. If you wish to wear a touch of green on the day with your school uniform you are most welcome to do so. This is not a free dress day!
St Luke’s Swimming Carnival
St Luke’s Swimming Carnival will be held at Craigie Leisure Centre tomorrow, Friday, 12 March starting at 10.00am. Parents are most welcome to come along and cheer the children on. Remember to dress your child and yourselves in the House colours, Red, Blue Green or Yellow! Most of all have fun and enjoy the day!
Mrs Meg Horne Appointed Assistant Principal at Mercy College, Koondoola
It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Mrs Meg Horne has been appointed Assistant Principal at Mercy College, Koondoola commencing Term 2. Meg has been part of St Luke's for the past two years and one term starting in Year 2 and being our Learning Support Co-ordinator last year and this term. This is a secondment arrangement between both schools and she will be there for at least the remainder of 2021. Her last day with us at St Luke's will be Holy Thursday, 1 April and this is no April Fool's joke!
This is a wonderful opportunity for Meg as she has been completing leadership courses in preparation for a role like this. Please join with me in congratulating Mrs Horne.
I am advertising for a Maintenance/Groundsperson to start from Monday, 29 March. If you have or know anyone who is qualified to take on this role, please see the job advertisement on our school website under Employment.

St Patrick’s Day – Wednesday 17th March
On Wednesday, we celebrate St Patrick’s day. Patrick was a missionary who helped to bring Christianity to Ireland. He is the patron saint of Ireland.
Fun Facts about St Pat:
- It was named the Friendliest Day of the Year by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Legend has it that St Pat stood on a hill in Ireland and banished all the snakes from the Island.
The fountain in front of the White House is sometimes dyed green in honour of the day.

Evening on the Green Containers for Change – at the P&F Evening on the Green we will be collecting any plastic water containers/soft drink cans that might have been thrown away in the past for our Containers for Change bin. Another famous St Luke’s tradition is our St Luke’s Easter Raffle. Organised by our Kindy parents this raffle will be held in the last few weeks of Term 1. Keep an eye out in the newsletter for more details and where to purchase tickets.
Families! Do you have the Woolworths Discovery Garden Seeds, succulent cuttings or flowerpots no longer needed around your home? Mrs Farcich would love to re-home them for you! All donations can be left next to the science classroom, now located at end of the library. Please email Tania.farcich@cewa.edu.au for any enquiries.
This Friday order forms will be coming home with your child so you can secure delicious hot cross buns right before Easter. Forms will need to be returned with correct money to the front office by Thursday 25th March. Once again, we thank Baker’s Delight Woodvale for helping us raise money and for supporting St Luke’s. With every pack sold, $2 will be returned to the P&F. Hot cross buns will be delivered to the school on Holy Thursday, the last day of Term 1.
