Astro February Update #4
Dream big. Reach for the stars. Together we achieve success!
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone who completed the survey. If you haven't completed it, we will be reaching out to you to gather the information. I know that there are still questions about exactly what in-person and distance learning will look like this spring. This will be a new experience for all of us just like last spring and this fall was. What we do know is we will do our best to meet the needs of all students. Prior to spring break, I will be sharing a video with you that will show how arrival and dismissal will look as well as other parts of the in-person school day. We will always prioritize the health and safety of students and staff.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help.
In partnership,
Jennifer Robbins

Parenting Tools Workshop
We are offering a free, on-line parent training and behavior management resource; Paxtools. Paxtools is designed to reduce conflict, help kids manage their own behaviors, and improve relationships, all while building self-regulation skills and improving cooperation.
This evidence-based, trauma-informed training is based on decades of research.
This program comes with a free kit of materials, and the free app, Pax Tools, is a great resource as well.
Our next training is on March 10, 2021 from 5:30-7:30 pm, virtually
Quote from previous participants:
“I've been a mom for 17 years, and have spent that whole time trying to come up with tools like these. Mine are always too complicated and too hard to follow through on, and I would always put all my energy into creating them. The PAX tools are simple enough that I can actually use them, and the presentation and materials made it so I don't have to put much thought or energy into implementation. I also really loved hearing the science behind each tool.”

Girls on the Run - Running Club
Founded locally in 2007, Girls on the Run of Portland Metro is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and a subsidiary council of Girls on the Run International. Since their start, they have partnered with more than 100 elementary schools and served over 5,500 girls in Portland.
Girls on the Run inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind through their after-school running program. The only program of its kind, it focuses on the important connection between mind and body. The research-based lessons and accessible physical activity instill confidence and nurture care and compassion in every girl!
Girls on the Run is looking for enthusiastic, dedicated, and positive volunteers to join their coaching community for their spring 2021 season.
Volunteers will co-coach teams of 6-10 girls from April 12th to June 5th for 90 minutes twice a week. Coaches do not need to have previous experience coaching, and all GOTR Coaches will receive the training, supplies and support needed to create an unforgettable experience for participants. Ladd Acres Yearbook
Ladd Acres Families,
Please use the links below to upload pictures for our 2020-2021 yearbook. We are hoping to be able to recreate the class pages, which means we would love to have a head/shoulders shot of each student and staff member. Photos need to be from this school year. Photos should be of high resolution with at least 300 dpi. Photos taken off social media are usually reformatted with lower resolution and do not meet this requirement.
We will also be creating the extra pages in the yearbook with photos of distance learning, pets, essential workers, arts, athletics, etc. We hope that we are able to create a fun and unique yearbook for this unique year.
If you have any questions, please email Jessi at Yearbook@LaddAcresPTA.com.

Our Astro Stars Website
Have you had the chance to check out our new community ASTRO website? If not, check it out here: https://sites.google.com/hsd.k12.or.us/our-astro-stars/home! This website is a fun space designed to help connect us all during comprehensive distance learning. Students can send a photo or video to share a new scientific discovery, short film, creative writing, art project, Covid- friendly adventures, book or game reviews, cooking/baking recipe, funny jokes, Lego creations, musical talents, pets, athletic talent, or something else that comes to mind. Submissions to the website must be sent to Teri Dunlop at dunlopt@hsd.k12.or.us.
Note: the website is only accessible through an HSD student account. Winter break is a great time to create something to share and don’t forget to check back frequently for new submissions! We can’t wait to see what you have to share!
