### The Week of March 25 - 29

In reading this week we are learning different ways to summarize a story. Students will learn how to summarize a fiction/non-fiction text using the 5Ws and 1H, as well as the "Someone, Wanted, But, So" strategy. You can support your child at home, by asking your child to summarize a story they have read each night using one of the strategies they have learned.

## Writing

Last week in writing we learned about about persuasive writing and how to write a review. As a class, we wrote a review about Forest North for the purpose of persuading new kindergartners to come to Forest North. I was really happy to hear that the kids thought Forest North had a fun learning environment! This week students are working on writing their own review and taking their writing through the writing process.

## Math

Last week we learned about 2-Dimensional shapes. We learned the names of 2-D shapes and we learned how to count the vertices and sides. This week we will learn the names of 3-Dimensional shapes and learn how to count the vertices, edges, and faces. The kids are enjoying our Geometry unit and getting lots of opportunity to practice the vocabulary. You can help you child with this skill at home by asking your child to identify the shapes they see in the real world and naming them, and counting the vertices, edges, and faces.

## Science

Last week we learned about the different parts of the Water Cycle and we got to do experiments related to the water cycle. On Monday, we will be doing a performance assessment to evaluate your child's knowledge and understanding of the water cycle. This week we will be learning about objects in the sky. We will learn about the moon, sun, and stars.

## Other

Field Day - The theme this year is The Circus! Mrs. Potral is looking for some talented volunteers for Field Day. Please let me or Mrs. Potral know what secret circus talents you may have (ie: juggling, making animal balloons, face painting, etc...).

Spring Holiday - Friday, March 29th. No School.

Attendance - Parents, the year is coming to a close quickly. I can't believe I only have 2 more months with the kiddos. Therefore, if possible, please make sure your child is getting to school before 7:45 and coming to school every day. We are working hard to prepare your child for 3rd grade and students miss a lot when they miss just one day or come in late.

Homework - In an effort to be more "green," I will be emailing homework each week instead of printing it out. Please let me know if you would prefer to receive a hard copy. I will make copies only for those who inquire for one. Thanks!

Report Cards - Report cards will be coming home on Thursday. Please look for them in your child's blue home folder. Please sign and return the envelope to me. Anything inside the envelope may be kept at home. If you'd like to conference about your child's progress, please contact me via email at: tia_sayaovong@roundrockisd.org to set an appointment.

## Have a great week!
