Making Corrections on Math Work
In math class, students are encouraged to fix mistakes on any assignment. Most work will be sent home each Friday in Friday Folders. On any math assignment, students have the opportunity to make corrections and earn half points back for that assignment. For example, if a student earns a 70% on an assignment, and he/she makes corrections,, the grade has the potential to raise to an 85%. This gives students the opportunity to learn from mistakes and maintain a higher average in math. This is not a requirement, just an opportunity for students. All corrections for the 1st Nine Weeks are due to Ms. Ellis by Monday, October 22nd.
Science
This week in Science, we completed our first Science Studies Weekly newspaper in class. I planned to begin with Life Science, but with Hurricane Florence approaching, we talked about hurricanes and other natural disasters (Earth/Space Science #5 - Natural Disasters). This topic was of high interest to students and served as the perfect paper to introduce my expectations and routines with the Science Studies Weekly (SSW) newspapers.
In Science, newspapers will be given to students most on Monday mornings and will be due by that Friday. Students are expected to complete the crossword puzzle and underline/label where they found the answers in the text. Students will be given some time in class to complete this assignment, but may need time at home to complete the assignment. Students will get SSW #1 "Attack of the Organisms" on Monday. It will be due on Friday, Sept. 21st. The newspaper we completed together will be sent home in Friday Folders today.
Language Arts
We will continue learning about context clues. We are reading biographies in the guided reading groups.
We will also start having Words Their Way homework this week with a test on Friday. Time will be given in class each day to complete the word sorts but any remaining work must be completed at home. More info on the Words Their Way homework can be found at the link below:
