Reptile Review

Principals Update
Hi Reptile Families,
We had an amazing turn out for our "traditionally" Annual Trunk or Treat event. It was fun to get together as a community! This month brings about reflecting on all the things we are thankful for. As a school, we are thankful for our students, staff, parents, and community.
The school board will be voting today to determine whether our school will be impacted by the proposed start times. Once we have more information about the times, we will send out more communication.
This month we will be hosting our first Chuck E' Cheese family night and Family Literacy Event. Please see below for the information on those events. We look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely,
Colleen Wilkinson
Principal
Counselor Corner
As the school counselor I do classroom lessons with every classroom at New River. The Safer, Smarter Kids curriculum is done in all schools in Pasco to promote healthy boundaries. The Zones of Regulation curriculum is done by me at NRES to help promote emotional regulation in students.
So far this year in our classroom guidance lessons we have discussed the following:
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
- How our "Safety Stop Sign" can help us use our voice to stop an unsafe situation
- Our "Trusted Triangle" is filled with safe adults we can talk to if a situation is unsafe
- The basic four zones of regulation and what they mean
3rd Grade - 5th Grade
- Our "Safety Network" is filled with safe adults that can help us when we feel unsafe
- How to be safe on the internet
- We have the right to use our voice in unsafe situations
- Reviewed the zones of regulation and how to recognize what we need in different situations
We also discussed the definition of bullying, using the book "Bully Beans". Bullying is repetitive acts of meanness that are meant to harm a person.
I look forward to sharing more with you all!
