May 4, 2018
This is an exciting time of the year as our 3rd-5th graders begin state testing! Please apply no stress and keep your student well rested and on schedule with bed times. A balanced breakfast helps to keep the brain power flowing. This week will be testing for our 3rd and 5th graders. They will do writing, reading, math, and 5th grade will also do Social Studies.
Please know that I speak with my "teacher hat" on as I truly say this time is a celebration and a showing off of our hard work--that of students, teachers, and parents. Reassurance and encouragement to just do your best with kind reminders to just carefully read, take your time, and do your best. That is all that needs to be done! Pats on the back and smiling support!
I do want to let you know that there are several forums for the candidates running for School Board. Please learn about our candidates and be ready to vote on June 19! The first forum and closest to us will be on Wednesday, May 9, 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at Lexington High School. Please share with neighbors, friends, and family.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Rest, Read, exeRcise!!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling, Principal of Midway Elementary

Midway Four-Year-Old Kindergarten Enrollment Information for 2018-2019* **only a few spots left***
We are excited to announce that Midway Elementary School is currently enrolling students for our full-day tuition based four-year-old program. In order to attend, your child must be four years old on or before September 1. There are no performance standards or tests required for admission. Any child living in the Midway Elementary School attendance zone is eligible to attend our program. Parents of students not zoned for MES will be required to sign a waiver requiring them to return back to their home school for regular kindergarten.
Enrollment for students zoned to MES will begin April 17, 2018. We will open the enrollment up to individuals outside of our MES zone beginning May 1, 2018. The class size is capped at 20. Once we have reached capacity, interested individuals will be placed on a waiting list in the event someone drops out of the class.
Tuition for the program is a total of $5,250.00 to be paid in 10 installments. A non-refundable $250.00 deposit is due upon enrollment (which will be deducted from the first month’s tuition). The remainder of the first month’s tuition ($275.00) will be due by the first day of school. The other nine payments will be drafted monthly. All drafts will be made on the 15th of each month. Over three rejected drafts, will cancel the draft privilege. At that time, full payment will need to be submitted by cash, money order or cashier’s check for the remaining tuition balance payable to Lexington School District One. Failure to submit will result in the child’s withdrawal from the 4-K program at MES.
A learning fee of $100 will also be due by the first day of school. This fee will cover supplies, materials, and additional financial support for your child’s academic program. Please be reminded that the state of South Carolina only fully funds five-year-old kindergarten.
What steps should I take to enroll my child?
Enrollment forms are available at Midway Elementary School and will be accepted beginning April 17, 2018 for zoned students, and May1, 2018 for out of zone students.
To enroll, you will need the child’s birth certificate, shot record, and proof of residency.
ONLY 20 SPACES WILL BE AVAILABLE
Your space is guaranteed with your non-refundable $250 deposit.
If you have additional questions, please contact our school at 803-821-0300.
