Counseling Corner with Mrs. Slacin
Respect was a hot topic throughout the month of October for Reynolds students. Rockets learned about the importance of helping others feel included, using the Buddy Bench, playground safety, and good sportsmanship in a special lesson taught by Mrs. Slacin, Mr. Wallis, and Mr. Ramirez during The Week of Respect. Students offered great insight into how they can make lunch, recess, Rocket Recharge, and PE a fun and respectful experience for all.
This year’s Red Ribbon Week theme for Reynolds School is Be Kind to Yourself and Then Let That Kindness Fill the World! Mrs. Slacin visited each classroom to teach students how to use the Calm Corner as an opportunity to regulate big emotions and take a break to refocus and do their best learning. Students discussed the importance of inclusion after a special read aloud of Strictly No Elephants. This story helped classes explore the idea of making everyone feel a sense of belonging at school. Lastly, students learned about HIB and the difference between conflict vs bullying. Students were encouraged to stand up for themselves and others and seek the support of a trusted adult when a kids sized problem becomes too challenging to solve on their own.
Community Helpers
Kindergarten students are learning about Community Helpers in their classrooms. They enjoyed a visit with Mrs. Fillis from our nursing team.

First Grade Pumpkin Math
In First Grade, the students combined the spirit of the season with math. The students predicted the number of seeds, and the pumpkin’s height, weight, and circumference. They then used tools to find the actual measurements before carving their pumpkins!
