" I know why the caged bird sings"
This poem is heavily influenced by her whole life. When Angelou was little her parents split up, and in her poem writes, " But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage can seldom see though his bars of rage." which seems similar to her life as a child; She got raped by her mothers boyfriend and fought restlessly for equal rights against blacks and whites, which in her poem explains how this bird is so helpless and cant move so he uses his voice to reach out to others and to let people know he wants to be free. Later in Angelou's life she fought and fought for the freedom of others, which relates to her poem when she wrote, "and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn and names the sky his own.
This poem relates to Angelou's life because she had a rough life; going through world war ll and the murder of one of her good friends, Martin Luther King Jr.
