PROGRAM ENHANCEMENT
Information for 2023/ 2024 School Year
Welcome back for those of you who are returning and welcome to those who are new to our school. I'm your program enhancement coordinator for those of you who do not know my goal is to provide a variety of programs through out the year to expand our learning out into the community.
Here are a few answers to common questions:
1) Adult chaperones:
Most programs are drop and go programs. This means you're not required to stay. However, we believe that learning is a whole family experience and do welcome parents who are interested in attending some programming. Please register in the parent/ chaperone category; note that sometimes this category will open after students have an opportunity to register as some events offer limited space. This is in the event description. Some events for example family events, ski days and theatre events do require an adult chaperone to register with students in certain grades, this requirement will be within the event description.
2) Family Events:
These will be offered on evenings and weekends to allow for the whole family to attend. These are a great opportunity to meet other Centre for Learning@HOME families. Due to the family nature it is kindly requested that students register with an adult chaperone who will take part in the fun!
3) Waitlists:
Always join the waitlist! This helps guide interest for a programs. If there is no waitlist available please let me know and I will make one. If there is enough interest I will try to get more classes so that as many students as possible can participate in programs.
4) Sibling participation will be limited to select events including family orientated events, low risk and virtual events based on availability. Sibling registration opens a few weeks prior to event. Opening dates are posted on the registration pages.
Always feel free to reach out to me. Email is best lcooper@redeemer.ab.ca. I'm always looking for new ideas and i try my best to respond to all emails within 2 business days.
Your Program Enhancement Coordinator will strive to offer a variety of activities with your student’s safety in mind.
Looking forward to getting out and learning within the community this school year!

AROUND TOWN
Student Supervision Standards and Parent Participation
CHRIST THE REDEEMER CATHOLIC SCHOOLS - FIELD TRIP PROCEDURES
Please note, some activities replicate a classroom setting (example: teacher led co-curricular classes) and in such situations, the Field Trip Supervision Ratios will not apply. Ratios similar to a traditional classroom will apply.
The CFL welcomes parents to participate in activities and events whenever possible. Some events require a parent supervise every participant; other events/venues restrict parent participation. The role of the parent is included in each event description. Please see below for an explanation of the rational.
1. Parent Participation is Mandatory
In this scenario, the students will require one on one assistance to complete the task or the venue has asked us to have a parent with each child. A CFL staff member will be there to assist the event leader, check in students and parents, and obtain the activity waiver forms.
2. Parent Participation is Voluntary
In this scenario, the parents are welcome to stay and participate, or release their student(s) to the care of The CFL staff and approved volunteers. The ratio of adults to students is in accordance with Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools’ policy (below). If the parent elects to drop their student(s) off, they must deliver the student(s) to the school staff member at the event to check them in and sign the activity waiver. At the end of the event, the parent must collect the student(s) from the school staff member at the specified time and ensure the staff member knows the parent has arrived to pick up the student(s). Please do not drop your student off at the door or plan to pick them up outside.
3. Parent Participation is Restricted or Not Allowed
In this scenario, the host venue has asked that parents not participate either due to the nature of the event (i.e. swim lessons) or because of limited space. The Centre for Learning@HOME will provide supervision according to the supervision standard set by Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools. Parents may be able to watch from the sidelines (like in swim lessons) or drop the student(s) off and pick them up at the end of the program. When dropping off your student(s), please deliver the student(s) to the school staff member at the event to check them in and sign the activity waiver. At the end of the event, the parent must collect the student(s) from the school staff member at the specified time and ensure the staff member knows you have arrived to pick up the student(s). Please do not drop your student off at the door or plan to pick them up outside.
If arrangements are made for someone other than the parent/guardian to pick up a student, please notify The CFL staff member, in writing, prior to the start of the event.
