Carus School News
Hello Carus Community,
It is certainly feeling like January with the rain and cold temperatures outside. Inside the building we are busy digging into learning and taking advantage of all of the learning routines that were set up in the fall.
Reading Mentor Program
The program is just what the name indicates, a mentor in reading. It will be taking place on Tuesday mornings starting in mid February. Mentors will be reading one-on-one with students in a quiet place outside of their classroom for about 30 minutes.
We could use your help. We need volunteers who are interested in reading with/mentoring kids on a weekly basis. In the past, it has been very rewarding for students and mentors alike. Please email Lindsey Twiss at ls6124@aol.com if you are interested in volunteering.
Please note that you will need to be a cleared volunteer if you would like to mentor. If you have not filled out a volunteer application, you can do so here.
Counseling Department Update
Sometimes the winter months can feel long and dreary. The excitement and busyness of the holidays has passed, and we can get stuck in a "rut" if we aren't aware and being intentional about taking care of ourselves. In Second Steps students are learning about perspective taking, and managing thoughts and emotions. Here are some ideas and perspectives to keep kids from getting stuck in unhealthy patterns of thinking and to get out of a "rut"!
