The Online Learning Schedule for this Week
This Week at Placerita 9.20.20
Good Evening Placerita Families…
Welcome to week seven of the school year. We have several items to review this evening.
We made it through the first grading period and progress report. Just so that you know, the grades that you saw on the first progress report do not go on a transcript; however, the next ones at the end of the quarter do. So we have four weeks to bring up any grades that your students would like to improve. Please encourage them that a lot of people start slow and this fall has been the most difficult of any school year in the history of time. We will all get better at what we are doing as we move through the year.
Note the information about immunizations below. Please check Infinite Campus if you have not done so to see if you need an updated immunization. More notices will be going out this week.
We are introducing the 2020-2021 Placerita Reading Challenge below. Please share with your students so they are aware. I know they will be talking about this in their English classes but please encourage them to participate. The more they read the better they succeed.
Also, see the note below from the District about our Learning Continuity and Attendance Plan.
Please remind your students that it is important not to share their links for their Google Meet or Zoom classes. Thankfully, we have only had a few times that someone has come into a class inappropriately. However, both Meet and Zoom are now set to only allow students with a Hart District email address into the class. That means that the only way that someone can come into class is if someone is giving out their links to their friends. Please remind your students that they should never share. Thank you for helping with that.
Our ASB has created a new classroom to share information about special activities. Please ask your students if they have joined. They will get credit for their teams in our team competition that goes on throughout the year. It is called the Miner Pride Room and the join code is i7mm4qd.
Please take a look below at information about how your students can check out a book from the library as well as the latest information from Miner Morning TV.
That’s it for tonight. Have a good week.
Mr. Turner
Sr. Turner

Placerita is a Title I School
What is Title I?
Title 1, Part A, is a federally funded program which provides services to schools based on student economic needs. Title I is designed to support state and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state academic standards to improve teaching and learning, and to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. Title I schools jointly develop a written parental involvement policy with parents each year called the School-Parent Compact.
In the William S. Hart Union High School District, eight schools are eligible to receive Title I funds and implement school-wide programs as a part of the Elementary and School Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002 (NCLB), and the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).
Parent involvement is critical in support of student achievement. Each school provides opportunities for families to be engaged and involved in their child’s education to support student learning. Parents are encouraged and invited to become partners in education with each school, contributing valuable ideas, input, and feedback throughout the year which is used to revise school site plans annually.
Parents are encouraged to maintain regular two-way communication with school staff regarding issues involving student learning and successful participation in school-sponsored programs. Parents should also play an active role in assisting their student with academic learning at home, and monitoring their student’s progress.
More information can be found here.

Attend school every day on time and ready to learn with a positive attitude
Read at home, study regularly, be responsible, and give your best effort at call times
Be respectful, listen carefully, and follow directions
Communicate openly and honestly with parents, and ask for help when necessary
Please review this School-Parent Compact with your child. This School-Parent Compact may also be discussed with you during a parent-teacher conference as it relates to your child’s school progress. Thank you for your support and involvement in your child’s education. Please feel free to contact your child’s counselor if you would like more information (661) 259-1551.
Sincerely,
John Turner
Principal

Students will learn how to put a feature story together, edit their productions and produce a newscast.
Our meetings will be held on Monday afternoons on Zoom from 3 pm to 4 pm. Students interested in joining Kid Flix should join our Google Classroom group using the code i6uaemo. Zoom information will be posted there.

Questions about Technology and Attendance
If you are having any type of tech issues please call the main school line at 661-259-1551 and we will give you a time to come in to work on fixing it.
In order to clarify a few questions that we have regarding attendance and students being present on either Zoom or Google Meet let's discuss a couple things. First, for students to check in to be counted present they should be present on screen for the teacher to see them. Second, they should mute their mic unless class is in a discussion mode, direct questions are being asked or if they are greeting or saying hi to their friends during designated times during class. It is important to remember that participation is a very important part of any learning environment. In some classes like PE, dance, art or music, participation through visual connection is a part of the grade. We would not want anyone’s grade to be lowered for participation or be counted absent because they were not visually participating. Some teachers are having students respond in the chat to show presence in class. Please encourage your students to participate fully so they can get all the credit they need for participation. We understand there are some exceptions and teachers are working with students in those areas already.
