December 2022


The month of December brings with it many different celebrations and colder temperatures. We are so proud of our Loiederman Lions for persevering through this exciting and challenging time of year while maintaining their focus on learning. After winter break, there will be about three weeks left of the marking period, so it is very important that students continue to complete assignments and ask for help if they need it. We wish all of our Loiederman families a safe and happy holiday season!

Please donate gift cards for LMS Teachers and Staff!:

Loiederman teachers and staff will be celebrating the holidays on December 20th. To make the celebration more fun, we are asking for donated gift cards to thank the teachers and staff for their hard work on behalf of our children. You can drop off gift cards to the school by going into the main entrance, you can send them in with your student and have them drop them off in the main office, or you can send virtual gift cards to ptsapresloiederman@gmail.com. SGA Food Drive:

The SGA is hosting a Food Drive to help benefit the Manna Food Bank. We will be collecting food items until December 22nd. All items should be bagged with your name and homeroom listed on them. The winning homeroom with the most donations will get donuts! A list of items we are looking for can be found here.

Chorus Concert

This is the week! On Thursday December 8, 2022 at 7 pm the A. Mario Loiederman middle school choruses will present a concert Our Blue Planet. Singer students need to be ready to sing and standing on risers at 6:00 pm for warm up and final run through of our combined songs. Caregivers can wait in the lobby and enjoy our Loiederman MS visual art show in the halls around the performance space. Singers will be dressed in their LMS music department polo shirts, black pants or skirts, and black shoes. We expect the shirts still on order to arrive early this week. This concert is free admission and is still limited to about three (3) family audience members per student singer. We have 125 singers times three caregivers allows for 375 audience members in the upper area seats. The singers will be sitting in the lower area together. We are excited to present this concert!

Dance Concert:

The Winter Dance Concert will be held on January 10th, 11th, and 12th. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online. Advance purchase is recommended as there will not be tickets available at the door if tickets sell out. If you have any questions about which night your student performs or need financial assistance purchasing tickets, please contact your student’s dance teacher.
Winter Sports: Winter 2022 middle school interscholastic athletics is upon us! Online registration through the ParentVUE Portal is open! The ParentVUE online registration portal, available in English and Spanish, incorporates all required paper forms and documents into an internet-based platform that can be accessed using a secure ParentVUE Portal login. Parents/guardians are also able to scan and upload their student’s physical as part of the registration process. Students MUST be fully registered to participate in try-outs. Try-outs will take place on December 6th - 8th. Please reach out to athletic coordinator David Corcoran with any questions, comments, or concerns!

Deportes de invierno: ¡El atletismo interescolar de la escuela intermedia de invierno de 2022 está sobre nosotros! ¡La inscripción en línea a través del Portal ParentVUE está abierta! Boys Basketball: Boys basketball tryouts will be held December 6th and 8th. Students who wish to tryout must have a completed physical and be registered on ParentVue by December 6th to be eligible. Please speak to Mr. Cunningham if you have any questions.

Girls Basketball: Girls Basketball Tryouts will take place on Tuesday (12/6) and Thursday (12/8), from 3:00pm - 5:30pm. To be permitted to participate, Parents/Caregivers MUST REGISTER their student athletes for the program through Synergy ParentVUE. A registration support guide may be found on the MCPS website, or you may reach out to Mr. Corcoran for help.

Baloncesto de niños: Las pruebas del equipo de baloncesto de niños se llevarán a cabo del 6 al 8 de diciembre. New - Free, On-Demand Online/Virtual Tutoring Available for All Students, K-12

New Partnerships with FEV Tutor and Tutor Me Education

All students will have access to free tutoring and 24/7 Homework Help to support success in their current courses/grade level, through two new approved tutoring providers, FEV Tutor and Tutor Me Education. As part of comprehensive strategies to mitigate learning disruption associated with the pandemic, all students will have access to these virtual tutoring services through their MCPS Google Account, using Clever. Some students will also be referred directly by their local school. To schedule tutoring sessions: Tutor Me students fill out this form or call/email at MCPS@tutormeeducation.com or 240-618-2549. Revised Cell Phone Policy

Montgomery County Public Schools has revised the expectations for elementary, middle and high schools regarding students’ ability to have cell phones. At the middle school level, MCPS provided individual schools the opportunity to implement a cell phone policy they felt was best for their community. This summer, the leadership team met to discuss our cell phone policy. Because we prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of our students, the leadership team agreed it was best to move to an off and away all day policy for our students. The purpose of the school day is for students to learn new information and to interact with staff and peers. Oftentimes, cell phones can become a distraction for adolescents, and we want to ensure our students are focused on academics throughout the day. There were already several middle schools who adopted the off and away all day policy this past school year and many more middle schools have joined for the new school year. If you need to communicate with your student at any point throughout the day, please feel free to call the Main Office at (240)740-5830. The Main Office can call your student to the phone or deliver a message to them.

Política revisada de teléfonos celulares

Las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Montgomery han revisado las expectativas para las escuelas primarias, intermedias y secundarias con respecto a la capacidad de los estudiantes para tener teléfonos celulares. En el nivel de la escuela intermedia, MCPS brindó a las escuelas individuales la oportunidad de implementar una política de teléfonos celulares que sintieron que era lo mejor para su comunidad.
