Library News
Please send a photograph of your child caught reading in a favorite place this summer to Ms. Bickel at sbickel@dedham.k12.ma.us, or send a photograph in with your child during the first week of school. The photographs will be shared on a bulletin board, and all students who send in a picture will be entered in a drawing for a free book from our fall book fair!
Art News
Ms. Altone is looking forward to seeing all returning and new students in the Art Room! Art classes will be on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays this year. We are excited to continue our use of Artsonia for digital art portfolios, and permission slips will be sent home to any families new to Artsonia.
...
Look out for an Art Newsletter in mid-September, and you are encouraged to follow Ms. Altone on Instagram @ms.altone. We will be welcoming another teacher candidate from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Ms. Dowling, who is working towards her Master of Arts in Teaching, Art Education degree.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Please review the Arrival and Dismissal procedures carefully. Safety is our #1 priority during this time. Please respect the staff who are on duty and adhere to our procedures.
Class Placement
- Class placement letters were mailed in early July.
- Please contact Donna Gardner if you did not receive your child's placement and/or are uncertain of their teacher.
- You should have also received a welcome letter from your child's teacher. Letters will indicate if additional supplies are needed. Please contact the office if you need assistance with obtaining needed supplies.
Staffing Changes for 2019-20 School Year
- Ms. Killgoar is joining the 3rd grade team.
- Welcome Mrs. Michelle Berry, a new special education teacher who will be co-teaching 3rd grade with Aubrey Cochrane-Dolleman.
- Andrea Larson and Lisa Magnacca will be co-teaching 4th grade.
- I am pleased to introduce our new music teacher, Jennifer O'Shea. Ms. O'Shea will also teach two days at the ECEC. Mr. Molinaro will be teaching one day at Greenlodge.
- We have a new Occupational Therapist joining our staff. Welcome Suzanne Sennott.
- In addition to our full time Speech Pathologist, Ms. Gina Torcoletti, we are in the process of hiring a part-time SLP.
- Our School Nurse, Geri Kelly, will be retiring in late November. A new school nurse will be hired in early November.
- We have two name changes this year! Ms. Kostas is now Mrs. McCarthy and Ms. Hanlon is now Mrs. Joslyn. Congratulations!
Classroom Configurations 2019-2020
- Three sections of first grade, two sections of second grade, two sections of third grade, two sections of fourth grade, three sections of 5th grade. Class sizes remain 18-23 students per class.
- We are fortunate to be able to have two co-taught classrooms next year. In 4th grade, Ms. Magnacca and Ms. Larson will be co-teaching. In 3rd grade, Ms. Dolleman will be co-teaching with Mrs. Berry, a dual certified, elementary and special education teacher. Click here to view the presentation to PTO on co-teaching. This is a wonderful opportunity to have two teachers working together all day in one classroom to support the diverse needs of all students. Co-taught classes with two full time teachers may have class size of 21-24 students. This will provide 1:12 teacher to student ratio, allowing us to maintain the benefits of smaller classes.
