FastBridge Assessment Information
We are excited to introduce FastBridge Learning for the 2021-2022 School Year. FastBridge is a formative assessment system that will be used district wide in grades K-12. This new assessment system replaces AIMS WEB Plus from previous school years. Our district will be using the FastTrack program with-in FastBridge Assessments. The assessment measures your student could take are;
Kindergarten: FAST earlyReading and FAST earlyMath
1st Grade: FAST earlyReading, FAST CBMreading (winter and spring) and FAST earlyMath,
2nd-3rd Grades: FAST aReading, FAST CBMreading, FAST aMath, FAST CBMmath Automaticity, and MySabers
4th and 5th Grades: FAST aReading, FAST AUTOreading, FAST aMath, FAST CBMmath Automaticity, and MySabers
What does this mean for you? This new assessment system is a tool to allow Sunset Hill teachers and administrators to identify what students have learned, and what skills they still need to learn to continue to be successful.
When will this be happening? Starting the week of August 30th we will begin our fall assessment window, which will continue though September!
What do you need to do? Nothing! Your teachers and school staff will be administering and proctoring these assessments during school hours!
This benchmarking assessment will take place three times a year; Fall, Winter, and Spring in Math, Reading, and Behavior. The purpose behind assessing three times a year is to track student progress through benchmark data to help drive instruction and identify student needs. As we know, student needs can often change, and this is one of many data points that are taken into account for each student. The FastBridge learning system is made with educators and students in mind, and includes in-depth data to guide instruction. While this new formative assessment system is new to Lawrence Public Schools and our students, we are excited to see what data it can bring! Want to know more? Check out this informational video link from FastBridge Learning!
Marathon Club is Back!
Hi everyone! Mrs. Dickson here! We are excited to be bringing back the Marathon Club this year! For those of you new to Sunset Hill, the Marathon Club is a before school running activity for K-5th graders. We will be at West Middle School Track where we will do fun fitness activities. I am REALLY excited for the Marathon Club because I will be running in the New York City Marathon along with 33,000 other people on Nov. 7th!
Please have your child get a permission slip from the office or Ms. Dickson.
Marathon Club will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-8am, weather permitting. We will do this until Ms. Dickson gets too cold to run, and then start back up in the Spring. Please have your child wear tennis shoes. We are also looking for some volunteers to help with this program, if you are interested please email stephanie.dickson@usd497.org
Upcoming PE events for our families.
Oct 4-8th Active School Family PE week.
Oct 6th Walk to School Day.
Please put these on the calendar and more information will be provided as we get closer to the day.
Book Check out has Begun!
Students have started checking out books! Books are due up to 2 weeks after being checked out. If students need more time with their library book and nobody has it on hold, they can renew their checkout by bringing their book back to the library and checking it out again.
How do they know students know what books they have checked out and when they are due? Students can log into their Destiny Library account by going to books.usd497.org
and choose Sunset Hill. In the upper right corner is a LOG IN button and students will use their student ID and password. Once they are logged in there is a MY INFO tab at the top. This is where they can find their checkouts and due dates.
If students have overdue books they cannot checkout new library books until those overdue books are returned. Thanks for your help in supporting your child in finding a spot to put their books at home when they are finished reading them.
The Library Student Advisory Board is looking for new members to join the team! If you are a 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th grader who is interested in sharing your voice about books, reading, and special events for our school, then consider filling out an application by Friday, October 1. You can fill out the electronic form or get a printed copy from me after Labor Day.
We will meet once a month on Friday mornings in the library during a morning meeting time.
