Prospect United Methodist Church
20/20 Vision for 2020: Growing DEEP in Christ; Reaching WIDE for Christ
Our 20/20 Vision process has now reached the 15-month mark. It’s been a long process, and there have been a few months where we didn’t feel like we were making much headway…but the recent work of your church leaders is really helping this process make some significant headway.
Jesus gave the Church its mission nearly 2000 years ago: “Go and make disciples.” The United Methodist Church articulates that mission with the statement: “Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Within that framework, Prospect has articulated our 2020 mission to be: “Growing DEEP in Christ; Reaching WIDE for Christ.”
We have also formulated an intentional discipleship path we believe provides clarity to the steps every believer (and ministry team) must make in their quest to becoming more fully devoted followers of Jesus. This path articulates the path from Waking to Christ to Worshipping Christ to Walking in Christ to Working for Christ to becoming a Witness for Christ.
Our discipleship path also articulates our core bridge-pieces of the DEEP and WIDE discipleship path: Daily Devotions, Ecclesia (or small group) participation, Community Engagement, Prospect Member Care, Passionate Worship, Societal Impact, Discipleship of Children & Youth and Embracing Radical Hospitality. It is our earnest belief that a DEEP and WIDE disciple will be recognized by their involvement in these pieces of the disciple-making puzzle.
Next month, I’ll update you on our 20/20 Vision. We have challenged our ministry teams with some pretty lofty (God-sized) goals. Soon these individual ministry teams will be meeting to develop their own “smart goals” related to our 20/20 Vision.
It’s an exciting time for Prospect! God is at work in the shadow of Dunlap’s big blue water tower. I hope you are as excited as I am to be a part of this life-transforming, disciple-making work!

Treasurer's Report
Where is Spring? This weather has been something else as everyone knows, but hoping for some warmer weather to come. March brought Holy Week and with that Easter on April 1 . With the Parade of Palms and the March to the Manager in December I have been able to pay the mission budget for the year. It is 100% paid with the exception of the Annual Conference asking which will be paid in June. The annual insurance for the church has been paid in full for the entire year with Church Mutual and this past month we received a refund of $771.00 from Church Mutual because we have had no claims filed for the past year.
There has been much activity in the committees so far this year. The Trustees have been busy with the remodeling of the parsonage bathroom and work around the church. Thanks to all of them. The Memorial Garden has been attended to for the Spring by Dave and Barb Wickness, thanks so much.
The music department has had all three pianos tuned for the Easter season so thanks to them. Education and children’s ministry did a great job with the walk through Holy Week after service on Palm Sunday. Members and friends all of this could not happen if you had not been paying your tithes and offerings to the church budget. Thanks so much.
Please continue to honor the church in such a way so we can continue to be in service to each other and to those outside of the church. Have a great Spring when it gets here. Bonnie Mankle, Treasurer
PARKING LOT PROJECT
The Trustees and the Finance Committee are evaluating a project to re-surface the church parking lot this year. Depending on the extent of the work to be done, the project cost could be significant and may require a special appeal for funding. Sometime in the next few weeks, we will share our findings and solicit the Congregation's support before we decide how best to pursue the project (or not).

Each carnation purchased at a cost of $1.00 will create the bouquet.

Last chance to order carnations will be Sunday, May 6th.
HIGHWAY CLEAN-UP: MAY 5th
Highway Clean-up Needs your Help!!!
Spring is here and May will soon arrive, too. The good weather means that Highway Cleanup time is upon us. For all of you new members and friends, PUMC is responsible for cleaning Cedar Hills Dr. From Knoxville/Rt. 40 to Bland Rd. (See map below.)
We need 6-10 people meeting in the Banner School parking lot at 9:00 a.m. for approximately 1 hour on usually the last Saturday of the month. If there is a Sunday School class or family that would like to do it as a group but at a different time/day, that is great -- just get in touch with Lois Yoches (243-5062).
The county supplies the neon, reflective vests and trash bags; each person should bring working gloves and sturdy shoes. The cleanup works best if one person stays on the top portion of the ditch and one covers the lower part so no one has to walk up and down the steep ditch.
First date of the season is Saturday, May 5th! See you in the Banner School parking lot at 9:00 am!

The small maintenance staff always finds work opportunities to match our skills. We often don't know what jobs we'll be doing, however, all that we do demonstrates God's love to the children in residence and the staff. We plan to travel to Quincy July 22 and return on July 27th.
Reservations have been secured, but it is never too late to join! Some of us stay all week, others a couple of days. Please contact the office if you are interested in joining us!

RED CROSS PLATELET DRIVE
The American Red Cross had decided to transition its mobile apheresis program in the Heart of America Blood Services Region. Effective June 30, 2018, the Red Cross will continue to collect much needed platelets at Red Cross blood and platelet donation centers, rather than mobile apheresis drives.
Beginning in July, the Peoria Center will be open 7 days a week to make collection more convenient, consistent and cost-effective.
Our last drive will be on June 25th, there will not be a drive held here in May. To make an appointment you can contact our Red Cross coordinator, Sue, directly at 636-4407. If you would like more information on platelet donation, please feel free to contact the office for additional brochures. Please make your appointment soon! Every person makes a difference!

MUSIC NEWS
CALLING ALL SPECIAL MUSIC PARTICIPANTS!
Each summer we rely on the talent in our congregation to provide us with excellent musical selections. In the past, we have had members sing, play piano, play a solo instrument, dance, read poetry… anything you can think would be worshipful. This would be a great way to get involved if you are too busy to be involved in choir or a regular group.
Contact Kirsten at 309-361-5200 if you would like to sign up through me or you can walk over to the choir room (which is located at the end of the hallway adjacent to the sanctuary) and sign-up.
Once you’ve signed up on the summer sign-up sheet list; if you need any help (mics, accompanist, guidance) you can contact Kirsten when it gets close to your turn! If you are apprehensive to perform alone, find a couple friends, and see if a group of people would be interested in sharing together.
If you don’t like to perform yourself, maybe you could give a verbal testimony of a song that’s important to you and then we could play the song during the service.
The possibilities are endless. Summer is approaching soon! Regardless of the weather not getting the “memo.” Sign-up early. We ALWAYS need more people. Do not be shy!

Breakfast with Jesus: the Book of James
Beginning May 1st, our Tuesday morning Bible study will spend 12-weeks with the Book of James. There’s no homework to do between sessions (although many choose to “read ahead”) and nothing to purchase. Each week we will read the text for the day, study it as a group, watch a short video led by Pastor Francis Chan, and close with some more discussion and prayer. And, just like the early disciples, we’ll eat together as we study together! Even if you have to miss a week, the videos are available to watch at home through the RightNowMedia website. (Contact the office if you need help accessing our church account.) We would love to have you join us!

MARY MARTHA
Next Meeting: Monday, May 21st.
We chose the name Mary-Martha after we remembered the story in Luke 10: 38-42. Some of us in the group feel we’re like Martha moving from task to task. But we aim to be like Mary too, able to be still and learn from Jesus.
We give to Crittenten, Lessie Bates Neighborhood House East St. Louis, Cunningham Children's home, Silent Auction, Chaddock Christmas Child, 100% of our funds are given to mission.
We welcome all ladies to join us!

ANNUAL DHS GRADUATION BREAKFAST AT PUMC
We are getting ready for the annual Dunlap High school Senior breakfast/brunch that will take place on Friday May 11, 2018 after graduation practice @ approx 9:30 am.
We are VERY excited due to the excellent turnout we had last year. I personally wasn't able to attend last year, but heard from SEVERAL attendees/volunteers that it truly was a spirit filled event and I look forward to attending/serving this year.
We would like to extend an invitation to anyone who might be interested in helping with the DHS breakfast to join Congregational Care at our next meeting on Sunday, May 6th following worship to discuss final details-you do not need to be a CC member to help out with his event!
THANK YOU!

Youth News
FUEL NEWS
Hey Prospect!
For the month of May during Sunday morning Fuel, we’ll be starting to go through more student questions about faith. For this, students ask questions they have about God, The Bible, or faith, and we answer them / have discussions based on those questions. Our first question being “Why Didn’t God Just Destroy Satan?” (it will take at least three weeks to answer this question well. Be on the lookout for Rundowns of what we’ve learned in the information center).
As for Sunday night Fuel, we’ll be finishing up our series “Going Fishing”, which we’ll be talking about:
*How to Bring Up Faith without It Being Awkward
*How to Be Praying for Your Friends
*How to Not Be a Jerk When Talking About Your Faith
Thanks and God Bless! Evan Penn
