A Message from the Principal...
I shared the story below with our RES staff this week, along with some thoughts:
"You are Enough"
My sister-in-law said those words to me as we stood and cooked dinner together one summer evening on a beach vacation. The sea breeze coming off the water could have knocked me over in that moment. That thought, that I might be "enough"-enough mom, enough daughter, enough friend, enough teacher-had never occurred to me, and it had certainly never been said to me, but it felt like a literal weight was lifted off my shoulders.
As I contemplated my message for our Tiger families this month, I thought this may also be much needed for you as well. We are in uncertain times right now, and as a parent and educator myself, I find myself constantly feeling like I am not "enough-" "Enough" educator; "Enough" support person; "Enough friend; "Enough" partner; and most especially, "Enough" Mama. I get it, Tiger families. We have all been thrust into roles that we didn't sign up for, on top of a dog gone global pandemic. Ya'll. Stop right now, wherever you are, whatever you are doing, and repeat after me: I. AM. ENOUGH. After you say it to yourselves...say it to your children.
The tremendous teachers at RES have created unbelievable resources and packets for our Tigers. Use them as a support. Use them to keep your kiddo on track. Reach out to your teachers for advice. Above all, prioritize your families physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being, find your balance, and use this experience to teach them life lessons:
Teach them perseverance, while also helping them understand there is a time to step away.
Teach them the importance of work ethic, while also helping them understand self-love.
Teach them resilience, but help them understand the meaning of grace.
Teach your children the importance of routine, while balancing that with a need for flexibility.
Teach them to set goals and reach for them, but help them understand...they are enough.
We are in this together, albeit from afar. Please reach out and let us know how we can support you and your Tigers during these unprecedented times. We miss them.
