One Act Play
This year, there were 13 members of the Piedmont Academy One Act Play. The Piedmont Academy One Act Play cast included juniors Ryn Smith, Madison Sanders, Madison McCart, Cassidy Cook, Deacon Robinson, and Gracie Hunt; sophomore, Mallory Boyd; and freshmen, Cally Cook, Jayden Young, and Rebekah Hicks. The crew includes freshmen Ava Anglin and Haley Anne Frank and 8th grader Taylor Boyd. Mrs. Peden was the sponsor and director of One Act Play. This year’s play was called “10 Reasons You Should Have Stayed Home Sick Today” by E. M. Bell. It is a short comedy about students living out high school’s everyday horrors. On November 6th, the members of PAC One Act Play went to Augusta Prep in Martinez, Georgia for Regionals. At Regionals, Ryn Smith won a plaque for the most outstanding performer. PAC One Act Play will, unfortunately, not be going to state this year, but they did perform at Piedmont for the Dessert Theater on November 12th at 3:00 pm. Many people stopped by our school to see our talented PAC One Act Play cast and crew perform their play.

Robotics Competition
The 2017 BEST Robotics theme was “Crossfire,” meaning teams had to create a robot that could move a mannequin to “safety,” shoot ping-pong balls at solo cups to put out the “fire,” and move cans of “toxic chemicals” away from the “fire.” The Piedmont Academy robotics team created a robot that could accomplish all three of those goals. The competition was held at South Forsyth High School in Cumming, Georgia on November 4th. At the competition, each of the 21 teams that were present had to have 2-5 drivers, depending on how many team members were present, and a drivers’ list with the order that the drivers were going in for each round. The PAC team’s drivers were senior, Caleb Vander Ven; senior, Kevin Davis; senior; Rustin Starker; senior, Daniel Respus; and sophomore, Mallory Boyd.
This year’s Georgia’s BEST Robotics Competition ended in a close call for the Piedmont Academy robotics team. Piedmont stayed in first place all the way up to the semi-finals. During the semi-finals, the robot started having trouble, but not enough to keep them out of the finals. During the finals, the robot continued having difficulty, so the PAC team ended up in 4th place for the finals. At the end, PAC won the Top Gun award for the most points earned in a round and the award for the most creative design. The PAC team also ended up as one of the six teams who was selected to go to Auburn on December 2nd and 3rd. Wish the PAC robotics team luck at the South’s BEST Robotics Competition!
