Resource for Orange County Families
We wanted to share a list of mental health, financial and food resources surrounding Orange County in case you or someone you know may need them. As a school, we would really like to provide options for families that are struggling in this area. Please let us know if you are in need of more assistance. We are here for you all during these times, and will get through this together.
You may find the list of resources here.
Resource Site For All Parents
We worked together to create a resource site for our families and for parents who are now faced with homeschooling their children. Please share with anyone who you feel could benefit from the site!
Academic Decathlon
Academic Decathlon Theme for the 2020-2021 School Year is:
The Cold War
Exploring the history of the Cold War, the Space Race and Astronomy, Reading Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut Jr, and exploring the Art and Music of the Cold War Era are just some of the exciting themes discussed in the AG approved elective.
High School students of all abilities are needed to form a team that then compete at a regional level to then have the opportunity to move to the state competition in Sacramento in March.
A student does not need to be an expert in all ten areas, instead, we are looking for students of all academic abilities to create a well-rounded team. The Decathlon is about creating a team, and the coaches and teammates work together throughout the course.
Please pass on the informational Flyer and Interest Survey to all of your families.

Click on the RSVP link to sign your child(ren) up for the workshop up until 2 hours before the start of the workshop. You will receive an email the day before or up until 2 hours before the start of the event with the Zoom link and password. For the safety of our families, we are asking that the camera is turned on, at least at the beginning while we are identifying that the attendees are all students.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the teacher in charge of the workshop or to Gina Garland, the Regional Community Coordinator: gina.garland@cabrillopointacademy.org.

Student Support
As the 2019-2020 school year is quickly drawing to a close, the Intervention team wants to thank you for all of your support!
Many of you are wondering what online opportunities we will have during the summer.
Reading Horizons Discovery and Elevate will continue without interruption throughout the summer.
On August 1-3, the students will roll over for the 2020-2021 school year.
In an effort to provide the best, most cost-effective intervention, we will not be using Pathblazer next year.
Pathblazers for reading and math will end on June 22 for all students.
In August, we will provide the HSTs a survey to fill out, to place students in one of our new intervention options.
For students that qualify, we are excited to let you know that for the 2020-2021 school year we are offering for free:
Mathseeds TK-3rd grades
Mathletics K-10th grade
Reading Eggs TK-4th grade
EggsPress 2nd – 8th grade
Renaissance Learning is no longer offering English in a Flash for our Multilingual Learners. We are delighted to let you know that we will be able to offer:
BrainPop ELL - Free for EL students
For those interested, until June 15th, you can access Brainpop ELL for free off of our Intervention website
Special Education
Your student’s case manager will be contacting you if your child is due for an initial or triennial evaluation. Most of these assessments will not take place while schools are physically closed, as they require direct contact between students and staff. Instead, these assessments will occur once schools physically open. However, some types of speech assessments may be completed virtually. Your child’s case manager will contact you if your child is due for an assessment at this time.
If your child’s IEP includes extended school year (ESY), we will be offering ESY services this summer. Your child’s case manager will contact you in the next few weeks regarding your child’s service(s).

Enrichment
Enrichment Ordering System: Amazon Punchout
We hope that you are enjoying using the Amazon punchout system!
Here is a new video to help avoid any issues with the system when entering these orders.
Video highlights:
Please only select Prime items, whenever possible. This will help your family avoid extra shipping costs, prevent unnecessary shipping delays, and will make it easier for the school to return items to the vendor, when necessary.
Please do NOT create punchout orders through mobile devices. It might look like orders are going through, but they may not. Always use a computer to enter punchout orders.
If the punchout system prompts you for a password, you took a wrong turn somewhere! Close the window, go back into your child’s EOS account, and begin creating the order again.
Please do not try to check your order history through your child’s Amazon account. This will confuse the account and create ordering issues. If you need to check your order history, please reach out to your HST, who can communicate with the Enrichment Dept.
Online Subscription Package
The OSP Portal will only be accepting subscription requests (including OSP A LA CARTE) through May 31st. For those who would still like to request OSP subscriptions, they will need to submit their requests in the OSP Portal no later than May 31st.
We are still finalizing the Online Subscription Package for the 2020-2021 school year; thanks for your patience!

Homeschooling Advice
5 strewing ideas to sneak in summer learning
"Springtime is finally here in Ohio, and I’m so grateful. Winter seems to have lasted approximately 472 days.
Okay. Not really.
It just feels like forever since we’ve been able to consistently get outside and enjoy the warm sun beating down on us. We are so ready for a bit of summer fun.
But since my kids go a little stir crazy if their minds are not engaged in new things regularly, I still like to keep them learning all year round.
We follow a very eclectic, self-directed approach to homeschool, so I’m always on alert for things my kids are talking about more than normal or for topics that might pique their interest so I can strew things for them to discover and check out.
Strewing is the secret sauce to my homeschool success.
It’s a term coined by the unschooling movement to mean, quite simply, that you put things out where kids can find them, hoping to spark their interests in new things.
There is a very important thing to keep in mind when strewing though:
Have no expectations.
The most crucial key to successful strewing is that you — the homeschool parent — do not get tied to the things you strew out. When we’re trusting our kids to figure out what they might be interested in, we need to trust them, too, to know what they’re not interested in.
And we need to respect that.
It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of giving your kiddo all the things at once and, in a sense, creating a mini-unit study to find out on the bookshelf or school table.
With strewing, though, less is more."
