PTA CORNER
1. Join PTA in congratulating theTJE PTA Secretary Kori Rodriquez for being awarded Volunteer of the Month for December. Her willingness, devotion, and ideas have helped create a positive atmosphere and fun activities of engagement for the TJE students and family! As a token of appreciation, Kori received a gift card and her own parking spot for the month of December on the TJE campus. Who will be Volunteer of the Month in January and future months? This is a reward open to any TJE volunteer who stands out.
2. Mrs. Keller and the PTA have extended the book fair engagement activity to Friday, Dec. 8th. You and your student still have time to help your students' class win a cupcake party and classroom trophy for bragging rights! Please be on the lookout for the engagement activity flyer in your students folder.
3. Student Christmas Gift Store! An order form went home in student folders last Friday for the Student Christmas Gift Store. An updated order form will go out soon. You can also find the updated order form included in today's Monday Matters. IMPORTANT: Students can return the completed order form along with cash or check payment to their homeroom teachers or placed in the PTA dropbox near the front office. If payment is made by Cash App or Zelle, please include 'your students full name, their teacher's name, and Xmas store' in the memo section of these payment platforms and the student will still need to return the completed order form to their homeroom teacher (be sure to indicate your method of payment on the form). If you pay by Cash App or Zelle, you also have the option of emailing a picture or scanned copy of the order form to pta.thelmajones@gmail.com. If you have any questions regarding the Christmas Gift Store, contact us at pta.thelmajones@gmail.com.
4. Join the TJE PTA on the Remind app for updates or direct communication! We have so much in store for the TJE students, staff, and community. Your thoughts and opinions are always welcome! To join, the Remind Class Code is 'cbke32' .
5. Last but not least, last month for Thanksgiving, the TJE PTA provided Turkey Dinner Baskets to 15 TJE families for the first time ever. It was an honor to assist families in this way, and the PTA hopes to expand the number of families we can help in the future and make this an annual support event. Thanks to the PTA's fundraising efforts, $8 paid membership dues, donations from PTA members, and donations from local businesses and churches, we were able to help the 15 families. We are grateful to all the donors!

Party invitations will only be passed out to the whole class or for girl/boy specific parties. Our goal is to never make students feel excluded. This is our practice at Thelma Jones. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Rhines.
You may send treat bags for your student's birthday. Treat bags will be passed out at the end of the day and sent home with students. Ideas for treat bags include: stickers, pencils, small party favors, and wrapped candy. You may not bring food for your student's birthday. Things like cupcakes and cookies will not be accepted.
When having lunch with your student, please be mindful that you may only eat with your student in the designated area. I know it's nice to meet your child's friends, but we are not allowed to put other students in your care without parent permission. Once lunch is over, you will need to checkout in the front. No visitors on the playground.

A Message From Nurse Spence
From Your School Nurse
Welcome back to school. We have started the school year out with a bang, already seeing cases of COVID, Strep and Flu. YOU, our wonderful parents, are our first line of defense to keep our school healthy. With COVID cases we are seeing low grade fever, body aches and fatigue. If your child is ill, please keep them at home.
We follow the Texas Department of State Health Services policies on excluding sick students from school.
· For COVID positives, the policy states that we exclude students from school for 5 days from the start of symptoms.
· Students with a temperature of 100.0 or greater must remain out of school until fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
· If your student is vomiting or has diarrhea, they are excluded from school until they are free of symptoms for 24 hours.
The school clinic phone number is 817-299-6950. It is my suggestion that you save that number to your phone so that you do not mistake it for Spam or a telemarketer call when the nurse calls you about your child.
We do offer telehealth through Goodside Health in the school clinic this year. If the nurse feels it could benefit the student and family, she will call the parents to ask if they would like a telehealth visit. If the student is already registered for Goodside Health, then the parent will receive a link via text message to be included in the video visit (parents must be present to do a telehealth visit). A provider will see the student via video chat and can order a strep, COVID or flu test that your school nurse can administer on site. The school nurse also has medications in the clinic that the provider can order for the student. If a prescription is needed, they will call it in to your pharmacy. Families will be billed through their insurance, or for those without insurance, Goodside Health offers a low cash pay rate to ensure accessibility for all. Visit www.goodsidehealth.com/billing-inquiries/ for billing questions.
Registering for SchoolMed is easy! Sign-up online at gsh.co/register
Accidents happen at all grade levels and sometimes we need a change of clothes. Please always have a complete extra set of clothes in your child’s backpack. We hate to disturb your workday to bring your child a change of clothes because they spilled sticky syrup all over themselves!
Welcome Back!
