Excitement for the solar eclipse is building. Your student's teachers have planned many learning activities correlating to their subject area. We have solar eclipse glasses for every student so that they may safely view the eclipse. Students are welcome to bring a towel or small blanket to sit on while viewing the eclipse.
SOLAR ECLISPE
Many Missouri schools are planning a range of activities on August 21, 2017, but none of them are more significant than offering students a chance to safely view the eclipse.
The district has purchased protective glasses for all students and employees for viewing what is designated in our area as a partial solar eclipse. A partial solar eclipse is an eclipse of the sun in which the moon does not completely hide the solar surface or photosphere so that some direct rays of sunlight reach the observer outside of the path of totality.
A total solar eclipse is when the moon moves right in front of the sun, covering it completely for a very short time. It darkens the whole sky, lets you look right at the sun (only when it's completely covered, though - you must use special solar viewing glasses (also known as "eclipse glasses") whenever the sun isn't completely eclipsed), and shows you the beautiful corona that surrounds the sun. Stars come out, the horizon glows with a 360-degree sunset, the temperature drops, and day turns into night.

MEAL CHARGING PROCEDURES - Please note changes
Lincoln Co. R-III School District and Chartwells School Dining Services serve students with quality, well-balanced meals at affordable prices. All students have a meal account that is used to keep track of student deposits and purchases. Parents can view the balances of their child’s meal account via the SISK12 Parent Portal.
Breakfast tray $1.80 Lunch tray $3.00
Students will not be allowed to charge meals beginning the first day of school if they do not have positive funds in their accounts. They will be offered an alternative meal for both breakfast and lunch.
Middle school students will be allowed to charge a maximum of ten ($10.00) dollars.
These meals charged will include only the menu items of the reimbursable meal.
Once the maximum of $10 has been met, the student may receive a designated menu alternate for both breakfast and lunch.
After this maximum has been met, no additional charges will be accepted
Your children may qualify for free meals or reduced price meals. Parents need to complete the Free and Reduced Meal Application for all students in the household. The completed application is returned to Donetta Schieffer, 951 West College St., Troy, MO 63379 or your school office.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Troy South Middle School Cafeteria offers many selections that elementary schools do not? We have several tray lines and many a la carte choices. With such a wide variety of lunches, occasionally our new students do not realize that the cost of their selections adds up. Please talk with your students about your preferences.
Below is a graphic showing some examples of a full meal. It is important that your student has a full meal on his tray in order to be charged properly. If a student does not have a full meal, items will be charged separately. Should you wish to put a spending limit on your child's account, please call 462-7115.
