Halloween Guidelines
Halloween is next week and we want our students to be able to have some fun while following safety guidelines on campus. Next Friday, October 30th, students may wear their costumes to class, whether on campus or during VLA sessions. Please refer to direction from your child’s teacher, as activities will vary depending upon the classroom. Please note that on campus activities such as our annual costume parade and parties will be on pause this year due to Covid-19 restrictions. Teachers will work with their room parents to provide activities and treat bags per our school guidelines.
If your child plans to wear a costume, please remember to keep the following in mind…
· Avoid masks. If a costume requires a mask, it must not interfere with their protective face covering. (Additionally, please make sure vision is not impaired while worn.
· Wear shoes. Safety regulations require students to wear shoes at all times.
· We promote a safe and friendly environment at Park Village. Simulated weapons, blood, and gore don’t support this philosophy. Toy guns, toy knives, handcuffs, swords, nun chucks, etc. are not permitted. Any child with bloody make-up will be asked to remove it.
· Costumes that portray violent movies/TV shows (Scream, Freddy Kruger, etc.) are not appropriate at school. Remember, we have young children participating in this activity.
· Display respect for other cultures. Stereotyping or ridiculing other races or cultures is unacceptable.
Thank you for following these guidelines. We have children of all ages at Park Village and we want activities to be respectful, fun, and full of smiles for all.

Important New School Lunch Changes for On-Campus Students
We appreciate your understanding as our district works through the logistics of currently offering free school lunches to PUSD students. Our district’s lunch menu changes are effective this Monday, October 19th. This is the last week that we will be taking orders in class. Orders for the week of October 26th and on will be compiled from parent/guardian Google form responses. Non-ESS students can order a “Heat & Eat” lunch (requires heating), and ESS students can order a “Ready-to-Eat” on campus lunch. Visit PUSD’s website for the most current elementary lunch menu, nutritional information, and heating instructions (if needed): https://powayusdnutrition.com/index.php?sid=0502141943502717&page=menus (Menu items are subject to change without notice due to availability.)
If you wish to order "Heat & Eat" lunches (entrées that require heating) for your non-ESS child, or “Ready-to-Eat” on campus lunches for your ESS child, please submit your child's selections for the week using the applicable form by 8:00 a.m. on Monday, but no earlier than the prior Wednesday. We will begin taking orders on October 21st for the week of October 26th.

Fall Virtual Book Fair Event October 19th-30th
Book Fair LIVE NOW!
Don’t forget that our online book fair is currently in progress until October 30th. Be sure to check out our virtual online fair here https://athomebookfairs.com/home?bfstring=Zp7Bj8P5. There are hundreds of books hand-selected by our book fair vendor Junior Library Guild for quality content and ultra-readability. Teacher wishlists are available for gifting books to your classroom library, which will be sent directly to the classroom and to make it even more convenient, they will ship directly to your home. Thank you for supporting our school! If you have any questions, please contact geraldinelapid@gmail.com
Celebrate with a “Birthday Book” Donation to the Library
The school library’s Birthday Book donation program is an opportunity to celebrate your child’s birthday (or another milestone occasion) by choosing a book for the library's collection. Your gift will benefit PVES students for years to come!
After the donated book arrives at the library, a special bookplate with your child's name and birthday age will be placed inside the front cover. I will also reserve the book so your child can be the first student to check it out from the library (unless they choose not to).
This program is completely optional, but new books are greatly appreciated by the students, teachers, and me! Thank you very much! -- Mrs. Fleming, Librarian
How the Birthday Book Club works:
1) Choose a book from the Park Village ES Library Wish List on Amazon any time, or our JLG Bookfair Wish List (Oct. 19-30, 2020). There are a wide variety of preselected books to choose from. You can ship the books directly to the library.
2) Complete the Birthday Book Donation form online so I know what to expect.
3) When the book is ready for check-out, your child can be the first one to borrow it.
After the book is returned, it becomes part of the library collection for other students to enjoy.
Thank you for supporting reading and learning at Park Village!

No Place For Hate
We are excited to share with you that Park Village was officially designated as a No Place For Hate school again this year! This past week teachers kicked off this valuable program with students. As a reminder, The “No Place For Hate” program was created by the national Anti Defamation League (ADL) organization and was developed to organize schools to work together and develop projects that enhance the appreciation of diversity and foster harmony amongst diverse groups. The campaign empowers schools to promote respect for individual and group differences while challenging prejudice and bigotry. Each year we will start by having all staff and students take the No Place For Hate Pledge seen here.
I PROMISE to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
I PROMISE to do my best to be kind to everyone -even if they are not like me.
IF I SEE someone being hurt or bullied, I will tell a teacher
EVERYONE should be able to feel safe and happy in school.
I WANT OUR SCHOOL to be No Place For Hate.
I PROMISE to abide by and uphold the No Place For Hate Pledge.
We will also be implementing three school wide activities throughout the year. The goal of these activities are to continue to find ways of building a more inclusive and respectful campus and to empower students to take a stand against hate and bullying. In addition to school wide activities, we have created a “Virtual Inclusion Lounge” for parents and students to access throughout the year. We hope students and parents will explore these resources together to have discussions around the topics of diversity, tolerance, and acceptance. Click here to access the “Virtual Inclusion Lounge” If you want to learn more about the No Place for Hate program in San Diego visit. https://sandiego.adl.org/no-place-for-hate. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Your “No Place For Hate” Team Members
