Elmwood News (11/5/18)
Week of 11/5-11/9
Message from Principal Polomsky
Elmwood Parents & Community~
By now, I hope you had a moment to read my message from earlier on the great news released by the Illinois State Board of Education. This week, the state board released all school report cards. As a community, we should all be very pleased by the performance of of our students at Elmwood. We received Exemplary status, putting us in the top 10% of schools in the state and indicating that we have no under performing sub-groups of students.
A special shout out to all of our students, staff and parents! We know that our academic growth is the result of our talented group of teachers who are experts in their craft, our hard working students who come to us prepared and ready to learn each day and our dedicated parents as we couldn’t do what we do each day if we weren’t all working together and toward the same goal!
Our hats go off to all of you for Making A Difference each and every day!
Lisa Polomsky

HOT OFF THE PRESS
5Essentials Survey
As a parent or guardian of one or more students attending Naperville Community Unit School District 203, your feedback is requested via participation in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey.
The purpose of this online survey is to understand parent/guardian perceptions in the areas of connectedness, satisfaction, interaction, involvement, and quality. Your participation and ratings on this survey are confidential; the district will only receive district or school level results if at least 20% of parents/guardians participate.
The results of this survey will be used to understand areas of strength and challenge at the district and school level based on your input and feedback. Families with students attending more than one school are asked to complete the survey for each school individually.
To access the survey, please click here https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/. Please select “Dupage” as the County. Lastly, please complete this survey by Tuesday, January 18, 2019 and thank you for your participation. Patrick W. Nolten, Ph.D. Assistant Superintendent for Assessment and Accountability
Winter Wear Drive
We are still collecting winter apparel for our students within the Elmwood community. We are collecting snow pants, coats, hats, mittens, boots, scarves & Halloween costumes. If you’re able to make a donation, please Sign Up here. For your convenience, we will continue to have collection bins in the front lobby and we will also bring them outside to drop off and pickup for parents that aren’t able to make it into the building. Please do not feel that you need to purchase anything new as we are accepting many gently used items as well.
Thanks in advance for opening your hearts to others in need! *If your child is in need of any of these items mentioned, please call our office #630-420-6341.
Rake and Run
The annual Rake ‘n Run is just a week away and we are looking for volunteers to help us rake!
The Elmwood Elementary School Family Partnership Committee (SFCP) is hosting a Rake ‘n Run event on Saturday, November 10, 2018 9-11am. We have many lawns to rake and are now looking for volunteers for this valuable service to our community.
If you are available and and willing to lend a helping hand, please email us at ElmwoodSFCP@gmail.com. This is a great event to get the whole family involved and help teach kids about being a caring community! We will have coffee, juice and bagels/donuts
afterward in the Elmwood garden to reward you for your hard work!
Can’t make the event but still want to help out? We’d love for some baked goods to be donated for the hard-working volunteers. Please email us as well if you would be willing to donate an item.

ColorCyle
Elmwood is going to participate in a very special program with Crayola. It’s called Crayola ColorCycle – an amazing new program devised to turn used markers into energy! All around Elmwood students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more! Please help support our efforts by sending your kids in with any used markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands. Drop-off boxes will be located around the school for your child to deposit the markers. Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year. Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—ColorCycle it!
Donate Small Toys to Elmwood
