Valentine's Day is here!
Tuesday, February 14th is Valentine's Day. Students are welcome to bring in a treat, candy or a card for their classmates. If students wish to participate, the policy is that students must bring in something for all of their classmates in homeroom and not just a few select friends. We have 29 students. I will be sending home a list with names of the students in our homeroom on Monday the 13th.

Starting February 16th at our school media center on STEM night, our annual winter-spring book fair is back. What we are learning
Eleanor Roosevelt
We'll be wrapping up our biographical study of Eleanor Roosevelt this week. We are continuing the theme of viewing a highly successful and influential woman whose characteristic traits are familiar in relation to our previous units on Frederic Douglas, Mary Bethune and Susan B. Anthony to name a few. We are examining traits like cooperation, diligence and tolerance and how these traits enabled her to make a difference in the world around her. Test will be on Friday, February 17th.
Fractions Unit
We are working with unit fractions, other types of fractions and learning about equivalent fractions. This unit builds of the concept of partitioning an object into equal parts. Unit fractions consider the idea of 1 part of an object that has been broken down into many equal parts. We also will discover that we can examine a partitioned object into different groupings that involve numerators of more than 1 First test is scheduled Friday, February 17th.
Heat Unit
We will begin our science unit where we study heat transfer, conductors and insulators and temperature. This exciting unit will lead students to explore the relationship of objects and things around them through a lens of temperature and change.
