General Updates and Important Information
**UPDATED** End of Year Events:
8th Grade Recognition and Celebration Night will creatively take place inside and outside on THURSDAY, MAY 26 by alphabet in stations between 5:00-8:00pm. The letter was sent to 8th grade students and families. The letter is linked here as well.
Next Friday, students will participate in this year’s Maverick Mania. It’s a fun day that includes a carnival-like atmosphere. Students (weather permitting) will be outside from about 9:30-11:30am. There will be bounce houses and pick up games in the gym and on the soccer fields. There will be some concessions available so students may want to bring money. There will also be a dunk tank with some of Murphy’s very own sitting for 15 minute windows of time. Students will need to buy chances to dunk a teacher. If possible, please do not come to pick up your student during Maverick Mania as it will be difficult to know exactly where your student is during the event. Lastly, please understand that we cannot allow parents to pick
up other students during the school day.

Murphy Junior High PTO Scholarship Application
The Murphy Junior High PTO is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for Oswego East High School Seniors who attended Murphy Junior High. To be eligible, you must have completed your 8th grade year at Murphy and be attending an accredited institution of higher learning. We will be awarding two $500 scholarships (one male/one female). The deadline for submissions is Monday, May 23rd, 2022.
Student/Family/Staff Safety:
As you know, the safety of our students is always our top priority. As the weather changes, there is a need to remind our families of the safe, recommended arrival/dismissal procedures that have been established by our community. During arrival, please do not park and have students walk through the drop-off line. Please be sure to pull all the way forward to the athletic entrance to drop off students to help reduce the wait time for all families who are dropping off students. There are three safe options for student dismissal: students either ride the bus home, walk/ride bikes along the bike path, or parents are to pick up students by following our parent pick-up line procedures (again, pulling all the way forward to allow for multiple cars to be stopped for pickup. The Plainfield Police Department will continue to be present from time to time. They have asked we remind our families of the following information:
*Cell phone usage is strictly prohibited in school zones.
*The speed limit in school zones when children are present is 20 mph.
*Make sure all children are buckled up properly.
*Parents and students should only be crossing the street at crosswalks.
*There is no parking along Grande Park Boulevard, Thornwood Way and Thornwood Boulevard at any time.
*Please be sure that students are utilizing the provided crosswalk
Thank you for your continued support and for keeping our students safe!
