How are you teaching fluency/ vocabulary/ comprehension in your classroom?
Why work on fluency? It is a necessary stepping stone to comprehension, there is a high correlation between fluency and comprehension. Children usually cannot comprehend if they cannot read fluently.
Why work on vocabulary? Vocabulary is crucial for getting meaning from a written or oral text. Without knowledge of key vocabulary in a text, a learner my have serious trouble understanding the message.
Why work on comprehension? Comprehending text is a complex and dynamic task. Regarded as “the essence of reading”
MTSS-Multi-Tiered System of Support
Key Components
The Iowa MTSS framework is made up of five components.
- Evidence-based curriculum and instruction provided at the universal level.
- Universal screening of all students.
- Evidence-based, instructional interventions at the targeted and intensive levels shall be provided to each student who needs them.
- Progress monitoring for learners below expectations.
- Data-based decision making throughout the system.
