Talley Street Update
April 14, 2022
Dear Talley Street Community,
I would like to give a shout out to our media specialist, Ashley Long! Ashley is the recipient of the 2022 American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) Frances Henne Award! This award acknowledges school librarians with five years or less experience who demonstrate leadership qualities with students, teachers, and administrators. Ashley received $1250.00 that will be used attend the national conference in Tampa in October 2023. We are so proud of Ashley and so glad she is a Talley Street Tigers! Go Ashley!
We are looking forward to meeting our rising 3rd grade families next week on April 20th and April 21st. The programs are from 6:00-7:00 pm. We are encouraging our families to follow the schedule below. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

We are happy to welcome back parents to our weekly Talley Rallies. For social distancing purposes, we have divided the school into thirds. Below you will find the Friday that your child’s class will come to the rally. Parents may not sit with their children and must stand on the green area surrounding the gym. We look forward to having parents join us!
Here are the classes that have Talley Rally this week (4/15):

GMAS Update
Greetings Talley Parents and Guardians,
The Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS) is designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the state-adopted content standards in the core content areas of English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
The GMAS will be administered to our students during the weeks of April 25 and May 2. Testing will take place during the school day from 8:00 - 10:45 a.m. The schedule for each tested subject area is below.
Please note that we are returning to the pre-pandemic requirements for the GMAS administration. As such, all students will be required to take the exam and will not be allowed to opt out.
Students took part in a GMAS practice exam yesterday to familiarize themselves with the test format. They were attentive and responsive during the practice session. We are confident that they will be prepared to do their best on the actual exam.
Thank you in advance for your support by helping your child get a good night’s sleep and a good meal before testing each day. For any questions concerning testing, please contact Ms. Arlethea Williams at awilliams@csdecatur.net.

CSD Updates
Extra Mile Award
Students: Do you know a teacher or CSD employee who has gone “the extra mile” this year? Nominate them for the CSD Extra Mile Award! The Extra Mile Award is an annual award that allows students to show their appreciation for the teachers or staff they feel go above and beyond what is expected of them.
Students (not parents) at any grade level can write an essay describing how their teacher (or staff member) goes the extra mile (parents can help younger children write the essay). The essays should be detailed and describe how the employee goes above and beyond.
Click here to submit a nomination. Students can also find the form any time via LaunchPad (it’s the purple icon labeled “Extra Mile Award nomination”). The deadline is May 25.
These awards will be presented at the CSD Opening Day Celebration in July.

Students will be invited to participate in the summer program based on the eligibility criteria described in the linked document. Participation in the summer program is not required or mandated for any student. However, we highly encourage students who qualify to engage in this opportunity as it will set them up for success in the next grade level.
