Poisson Distribution

The fishy side of statistics

Requirements

In a poisson distribution: Every happening has to be random, they cannot depend on each other, and they have to be evenly distributed over a specific interval.

Example:

Left-handed people tend to die an average of nine years sooner than their right-handed counterparts. Find the probability that a left-handed person dies 7 years sooner than their right-handed counterpart.

mean = 9 x = 7

The probability for this occurring is .1171
