Types of waves

In a transverse the matter moves back and forth at right angles that the wave travels. The energy moves up and down. A medium that this type of wave could go through is water.

In a compressional wave, matter in the medium moves back and forth along the same direction that the wave travels. The wave carries energy forward along the medium. A medium that this wave could travel through is a springed toy.
